Hi y'all, moving to Korea (fingers et al crossed, touching wood, &c) in a few weeks time and I've noticed a couple of people mentioning things that one should bring to Korea because they (i.e. Koreans) don't have them (e.g. deoderant, large towels). So, basically, what'd I'd like is the definitive list a guy should bring with him (if you want to mention things women should bring with them, please mark them with an asterisk (I'm not particularly bright so I don't want to be going over with cartons of women's sanitary towels thinking " I'm going to have to find out why I was advised to bring these" )). Let the list begin...
Oh, sorry about the somewhat misleading subject but I thought I'd better find someway to grab your stale attention |

I"m pretty sure a search of the board will turn up anywhere from 2-10 different threads covering this very topic. |

What a guy needs in Korea is the ability to be independant. Research methods like using past threads is a start.
Look at previous threads and then ask things like: What sort of beer paraphenalia do they have, or should I bring my own. How can I assure myself of access to Super14, or will it be cold turkey for me. What is Pride and can it replace a good game of thugby?
And of course, how much muesli should I bring with me (for my feminine side of course)?
Give us something to work with fella. |

Give the guy a break, he admitted he wasn't very bright. |

Sorry, wasn't being sarcastic. Well, a little about my fem side.
I'm serious about the Super14 and beer though.
If he were to tell us his interests someone may be able to give advice. |

Not a guy, but a quick rehash of what you'll probably want:
condoms- the whining about how uncomfortable Korean ones are just never ends.
comfort food- helps ease the homesickness a little
good deodorant- hard to find stuff for guys here I think
Shoes- depends on how big your feet are, but it seems like lots of guys have trouble finding ones that fit.
spices- if you cook at all, they're good to bring with you.
Stuff like cold medicine, pepto bismol ( just in case) and vitamins are worth the space in your suitcase too. |

Porn -- what they have on offer here is totally un-arousing... i mean the porn and the women both!
Shaving stuff -- particularly aftershave. also if you use an electric shaver, pre-shave lotion like "Lectric Shave" is unavailable here
Digital camera, computer games, MP3, etc. -- electronics prices are inflated here, and computer games in English are harder to find. bring what you'll need from overseas. i think a camera in particular is a must-have, and they're cheap at Wal-mart back home.
Underwear -- i can't understand why, but boxers are incredibly overpriced here. and if you're a briefs man, they call men's briefs "panties" here, because that's what they essentially are! |

Gotta love how many of the underwear brands have the male and female symbol on the same pack...On the othe rhand, it does let one try being a transvestite without buying the whole package...
Almost everything is available here, you just have to look for it. The ONLY thing that I have had trouble finding is shoes, but I wear 13's. If you wear 9 or under you should be alright. |

If a guy has feet under size 9, does that mean korean condoms would fit too? |

I wear size 11 shoes, and I have never had any problems finding shoes here. However, they alwas comment on how it is the largest size they have, but they ALWAYS have it, except for the odd shoe. |

As for big towels, I used to think that there were none here too, but they can be found at places like E-Mart. |
