Hi

Has anyone out there in the world of public schools ever been asked to take out employment insurance?

I have just been told, having already worked here for 6 months, that it is mandatory for an E-2 visa.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Might've been paying it for years as part of the taxes, but I've certainly never heard of it.

That's a lot of hogwash. Tell 'em to stuff it. Employment insurance. Give me a break.

This is supposedly in addition to the taxes and pension we pay. Apparently, I may have to take out an insurance policy!

Its optional for E2 visa holders. My public school thought the same but after I made them check it out they found it was optional. You dont have to take it but they do have to offer it.

Really?
Well, if it is optional then I think I will pass. I only have 6 months left anyway.

If they insist, I will get them to check with immigration.
