On my way home tonight, I saw a small dog roaming around the street inbetween cars. She almost got run over twice and I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I just went inside and didn't try to help her. I found her down the street a ways. Thankfully, she's unharmed, and would appear to have been groomed very recently (maybe even today). It appears that she just had a litter of puppies, too.

Anyway, I'm a big dog lover, so I'm willing to take her in for a few days, but I can't do this in the long-term (I'm living in an officetel, and she'd be here by herself all day), so I'm really interested in finding the owner. I went to my school and printed out some pictures of her along with a message in Korean (my boss helped). I walked around the neighborhood a bit with the pictures and the sign, but no hits so far.

My problem is this (mostly): I live on a big intersection, along which is a bunch of stores and such. However, right off of these main streets are smaller ones filled with houses, so there are a ton of places where the owner could be. The dog is pretty small, but in the two minutes I went inside and then back out, she made it a good couple hundred feet down the street. Then again, given how recklessly she was moving in the traffic, I can't imagine that she got too far from home.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for finding the owner, or if there are any agencies or programs that could help in this? Back home, I'd call the police and let them know I found a lost dog, but such an action didn't seem to occur to my boss, so I'm not sure what to do. If anyone has any advice for finding the owner (either by foot or calling someone), or any help in general, I would be most appreciative.

Before anyone asks--no, there was no tag of any kind. I'll gladly purchase one for her once the owner shows up.

Try contacting local vets and pet stores also. Good luck.

Yeah, I would say take the pictures to as many vets/groomers as you can find in the area. If the dog appears to have been freshly-groomed, it may well have escaped while at the groomer's. The place I take my babies puts them in a kennel after grooming, but most don't. According to my students, "runaways" are fairly common occurences. Evil or Very Mad

Laughing Yah, dogs running free on the streets of this country are ... prime targets for abduction.

IF you care about the little guy's well-being you'll take him in.

I adopted a cat here. Keeps my other Canada cat entertained & physically fit.

We've had a new development in the saga. Down the hall from me is someone with another dog, and apparently the two dogs started going at one another something fierce today, so we had to take mine over to a shelter (I think SPCA but I'm not sure). Anyway, a friend of mine has already shown interest in the dog, so even if we don't get any hits from trying the local groomers or whatnot, I'm sure we'll be able to find her a home.

Now that that's finished, may I rant a moment? What is the matter with people not putting tags on their dogs? I'm constantly seeing women walking around with these cute little lapdogs in their arms and no ID on them at all. Given how energetic and small these things are, I can't believe that anyone can still delude themselves by thinking "Oh, well, I always hold my dog in my arms, so she'll never get away." So much grief in the last 24 hours could have been spared if the owner just had a little collar and tag made (free million dollar idea--market white/nearly-invisible dog collars for owners who think they look ugly).

And no, this isn't a "Oh man look how stupid Koreans are" comment--it's aimed at the faults of overly-wishful thinking in general.

You oughta take 'em in. A dog can last in an offistel, since I should know. I had a wife in one.

No, I had a doggie I kept with me in one of those places, nearby a park though.

Don't, however, trust some of the government supplied shelters, nor Korean generosity and compassion when it comes to dogs. Girls are emotional, but lo and behold, the dog is kept chained up outside in the back, or to a dingy, dilapidated doghouse, and fed scraps of rice and kimchi.

The dog may just change your life in Korea. Mine actually saved mine, and got me the heck out.

That was sweet of you to take the dog in. I wonder what happened to her puppies Crying or Very sad Dogs aren't licensed here, so no tags. I took a lame mini daschund in once (she was dragging herself around my campus in the bitter cold...), and found a home for her on the net. Actually, my Korean friend posted her photo and some info about her, and a college student from Jolla province drove 4 hours to Seoul to pick her up, then drove back another 4 hours! I guess she really like miniature daschunds! Anyway, you can always try the Korean net. I've heard bad things about shelters...

Dogs are a damn menace. My house is surrounded by yapping mutts, and the yard and sidewalks are covered in turds. My wife has taken to calling the area "The Dogs' Toilet". The dogs are so neurotic that you can't move around my place without one of the little buggers going apesh!it on you. I never cease to be amazed at the lack of consideration and ignorance of my neighbours - and they're not all Korean, either. And of course there's no such thing as city-government enforced noise control in The Land of the Morning Calm. The dogs are unhappy, and I am beside myself with frustration. Thank God I'm moving out next week!

Don't get me wrong; I like dogs, I used to have one. Proper dogs mind you, not these emotionally stunted yapping, pooping little mongrels that are all too commoon here.

Do your dog and your neighbours a favour and postpone owning a pet until you can take care of it in a humane environment. Honestly, euthanasia would be the best option for these sad creatures. Maybe we could euthanise the dogs, too.

Euthanise the dogs? Rolling Eyes Why not find them a nice home? A menace? I think the world is a better place because of dogs (guide dogs, addition to a family, working dogs, hunting dogs, therapy dogs, etc.). They are useful. Dude, don't get mad at the dogs in your neighborhood- it's your neighbors' fault they don't clean up the poo. It's your neighbors' fault they don't train the dogs not to bark. As for neurotic, I'm guessing that's due to in-breeding, also due to humans.`Have you complained to any of your neighbors? Why are you living in a canine-infested neighborhood, anyway? If you chose that neighborhood- why?
