I had an interview today at a university and was verbally offered a position to begin in early March. They are giving me until Tuesday to make a decision. Details were gone over while I was there.
When I opened the email this evening to print out and read over the contract, all that was there were dates, salary, and bonuses. Nothing else. I was to print this out and then send back or fax this document, signed, and THEN a contract is to be issued.
Does this sound strange? Has anyone else signed something like this?
Thanks! |

Don't do it. N-E-G-A-T-O-R-Y! I wonder if your really communicating with someone at the university? What's the recruiters name? |

Go ahead and sign it. It simply means you have seen those terms on the paper. Its not legally binding so if the contract turns out to be crap you can negotiate it or look for another job if you wish.
Just make sure you read the contract thoroughly. |

I agree. If you sign it, you are only agreeing to the basic terms for now. You can't be said to be accepting everything until you sign the contract. So if you like the terms, go ahead and sign it. |

assuming you like the terms offered, you should write back:
"I hereby accept your preliminary offer of employment under the terms as offered: dates of employment .... , pay ..... , bonus ..... with my final acceptance subject to a review of the entire contract. Please forward the final contract to me no later than (date) so we may conclude our negotiations.
Sincerely,
Andrew |
