I'm wondering if anyone has ever gotten their visa in Thailand as opposed to making the trip to Japan that so many of us do? Has anyone done it before? Can anyone offer any advice, or does anyone have any info on how long the processing takes, and what not? Thanks.

Sorry, but appears you want your cake and to eat it too. If you can figure out how to do it, PM me.

Why not? If he has the time and money, there shouldn't be a problem, should there?

It's been a while since I've done it, but it was easy enough. Seems to me it took a couple of days. The biggest problem was that the Korean embassy is not very conveniently located. I just showed my taxi drivers my Lonely Planet book with the address and they took me there. There was a shopping center not too far away where I killed some time once because I arrived during the visa section's lunch.

Yea, you can do it. It worked well but the last time was real bad. I stay on KSR. From KSR take a metered taxi to Hualumpong train/subway station.
After this, the journey gets a little difficult. Get off at the stop at Carrefour and I can't recall what stop that is, ask the ticket seller.

You need to go north once you exit but there is a triangle city block that you need to walk around. Once you are out of the subway, you'll see a half built business office tower - 2 of 'em, two identical towers walk in that diection but take the road that goes north. You have to hop skip and jump throught the traffic. The road to the embassy is one way and about six lanes wide. Walk almost a 3/4 mile and the embassy is on the left/west side of road. It looks very Korean and is surrounded by a large wall.

You could take a taxi there and the subway back tho.

make sure you have the address of the embassy written in thai and take a taxi. taxis in thailand are cheap, and it will save you a lot of hassles

I picked up my VISA in bangkok in the summer. As previously mentioned the embassy is not convieniently located and I got taken in entirely the wrong direction a couple of times (despite having the address and my trusty lonely planet). It is supposed to take two days, but I got it done in a day as was leaving that day and once there it was very easy. It sure beats Japan!!!
