Guy at work, fat, sensitive, says to me, "I'd take them to amusement parks, offer to buy them lunch. Sometimes they'd want to go to the beach, and I'd take them. . .But eventually, I felt they were just using me. . .I only hear from one."
He's talking about a Chinese restaurant he visits and eats at, thereby befriending the Chinese immigrants there, at least if not anything but to treat them nicely. Apparently he helps them out now and then, lets them practice their English, gets them to see some sights back here in the West.
But he feels he gets nothing in return, though he doesn't expect it. Eventually, after being restaurant workers, they find something better, and move on. Just one has kept in touch.
So my question is, how does it feel to be used, to actually think you're wanted, popular, someone special, that guy/girl in tow and all? |

I wish people would start posting meaningful thread titles. I mean, is there any information given by the OP in the title? So often you see a page of threads, all with the same cra p uniformative titles: "Questions" "How Does It Feel" "If You Live In Korea..." "Check This Out" etc etc.
How hard is it to think up a five-ten word meaningful summary? Even just adding "to be used" onto the end of the thread title would've done it.

How about, "Hey Newbie, Have I Got News For You!" ?
"Guess What Just Happened to Me!"
"You won't believe this, but..."
"You know what bugs me?"
"Where did I put those?"
"Um..." |

Hey, it's crazy, but I just know what he's going through. It feels awful. I had some 'friends' like these. They wanted me - for a year and a part of a year - finally someone actually seemed to really appreciate the real me and we had so much funny. Truly, I felt priveleged to help them with their shopping, and paying their parking tickets for them, and explaining all that stuff to the cops for them. I felt so valued for a year, then they flew away, and the loneliness birds settled back into the nest of my heart, once again. Some time later, I decided to travel to their country and rekindle the old flame of friendship, as I had no friends at home. When I arrived, I tried and tried for weeks and weeks to get them, get anyone, to meet with me, but they were so busy. And there I was, in a country I didn't understand pursuing friendship with a group of people I thought were genuine friends but who, in fact, wanted nothing more from me as they had returned to their former first-language-exclusive lives and who, in other point of fact, laughed at my trouble with their colleagues on Monday mornings in scorn at my situation. Epson, I'm glad somebody else understands the pain. Thanks for sharing. Do you like ice-cream? Let's be friends. Let me know what your favourite kind is, and I'll let you know mine too.

Odd indeed, considering that the gratuitous profanity contained within this thread has not yet been censored. |

Not only yours but the ones by Swiss James and others -- everything that came between the OP and mine -- were all yanked. This makes my post pointless and weird, like I'm talking to ghosts. Which of course, I do at times, but not on Dave's. |

A lot of that going around lately. The key word is "confrontational". |

Say good-bye to 60~70% of the posts on Dave's in that case. |
