Playboy Picks 6 in Korean Model Search

Six female Korean models were selected to be featured in the American magazine ��Playboy�� yesterday at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Seoul.

The event, part of the magazine��s ��2006 Playboy Model Search Competition,�� was emceed by Kang Byeong-gyu and model Kim So-yeon.

In a series of events, including a lingerie fashion show and dance competition, the 17 contestants vied to be one of the six models chosen. This is the first time a Playboy model search competition has been held in Korea.

A total of 200 hopefuls "showed up" on January 20, and 17 finalists advanced after a first-round camera test.

The six women who were selected as the Korean representatives will fly to Los Angeles and, along with women from 12 different countries, including England, Germany, Brazil, and the Netherlands, will be photographed for the Germany World Cup preview that will be printed in Playboy��s June issue.

Among the six judges, the only regular citizen, Won Jong-beom (26, sports apparel salesman), said, ��I was nervous about selecting the models myself, but the entire competition was fun and a very unique experience.�� Won was selected from among 50 applicants.

Dozens of reporters gathered for an autograph session with former Playboy model and competition judge Christi Shake (26).

��The qualities of a great model are a great personality, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude,�� she said. ��Korean models certainly possess these characteristics.��

More than 1,500 people, including celebrities, came to the festivities on the eve of the competition at the Rivera Hotel, taking photos and dancing with the modeling hopefuls.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the winner- no prettier than the average girl her age, that I'd see half asleep on the subway.

I have no clue why, when I see the results from such events, I always notice how I could, within 5 minutes, walk down a busy street on a Saturday evening and pick out at least 5 girls who blow the winners away.

Not many "normal" korean girls are going to jump at a chance to pose nude in an international men's magazine. The have to have the appearance of being a good girl. The stigma in korea would be hard on most girls here.
In Canada or America they are usually nude after 5 beers. Koreans still attempt to look "pure" for the wedding day.

What we consider attractive, Koreans might disagree. These girls are probably the most attractive to your average Korean man, but we need something more than the plastic woman thing these women have going on.
