Has anyone been to either of these islands? My husband and I will be traveling for six months after a draining two years in Korea. My cousin will be meeting us in Thailand and I want to go to an island not so far from Bangkok to chill out for a week or so. I'm looking for beautiful beaches and a little nightlife. I don't want to spend more than B600 on a bungalow. Any thoughts, advice or recommendations on either of these islands.
Cheers |

-and how much do you plan to spend in 6 months of carefree travel?
Iys what i used to do, but nowadays i'd rather keep cash that I've saved and build it up towards something.
Right now I could sit in SE Asia for a year or so..but no, I'm just going to spend a month. To keep my savings largely intact. |

I'm sorry, but you must not have understood the question. I wasn't inquiring about what you might do with your hard earned money and frankly I don't care about your finances. The question was posted to ask for personal experiences of those who have travelled to Ko Samet or Ko Chang. You obviously have nothing constructive or helpful to contribute to the original post.
Once again...Ko Samet or Ko Chang? |

Last year I stayed at Tatawan Bungalows, White Sands Beach, on Koh Chang- 450Baht/night (low season). Beach was lovely and quiet in the afternoon, the attached restaurant served up pretty good food, nice place to hang out for a few days (or weeks) right on the water, friendly grandfather in a wool hat (Frankie? - I forget his name) sort of ran the place, around 8 or 9 pm the inhouse band starts up, they were not half-bad as i recall with a sort of jim morrison-meets-jimi hendrix-type on vocals, he napped in the restaurant every afternoon, bungalows were orange, basic, and clean...I don't know if that's precisely what you're looking for but it sure worked for me. You can also get cheap bus tickets to Koh Chang at Sugar Guesthouse just down the street from Khaosan Road...anyway, have fun! |

Thanks midgic. Appreciate the information.
As for Rapier, once again you have failed to provide any information related to the question. I'm looking for accommodation recommendations on Ko Chang and Ko Samet.
"and you obviously have nothing constructive or helpful to contribute to the poverty stricken 3rd world people of Thailand."
Many people on this discussion board have colourfully described you as many things, but a philanthropist????? You are truly a bore, and judging by your 4000 some odd posts, a bore with not much else going on. |

I visited Ko Samet once. Paid 800 baht for a night. It was OK. But the recommendation from midjic made Ko Chang sound appealing. I doubt either will really disappoint though. My favorite part was the boat ride. I liked the green water.
www.ajarn.com might help in your search for info |

You can do both. Ko Samet can be done on a weekend trip by going from Bangkok to Pattaya, and then down to Ko Samet. It's not very big, a little pricier than I expected, and not much nightlife at all. But it was restful and the beaches are nice. Overall, I liked Jomtien better, which is immediately south of Pattaya. You could try the place and then move on to other areas with more action.

i would recommend getting on a bangkok airways flight to samui (80,000 won one way) and checking out koh tao and phag pnagn. the water and night life are much better. if you're feeling cheap, take the train and ferry for 19 hours. |

Ko chang is very nice, I spent two weeks there a few years ago, cheap, underdeveloped compared to the other side of thailand. The best beach I found there was called lonely beach, still to this day one of the nicest beaches I have seen. You can rent a beach hut for acout 5-7 US a night.
Great place to rent a kayak or a boat and explore truely deserted islands that are dotted all along the coast. |

Grotto,
No air con, in the beach hut, there was a fan though. I did also spend a few nights on a beach just north of lonely beach at a resort hotel that air con, pool etc. It was about 18 US a night but the beach was not nearly as nice. |
