I was wondering.. I think these days (it may be my dissatisfaction with the daily routine of Teaching English) I really wanna do "something more" challenging, interesting, beautiful, fulfilling, inspirational, mind-blowing...
something. And I was wondering ya know, if ya'll feel that way sometimes? are we ever content? Is this feeling perpetual?
going to grad school and trying to "move up"
getting another job, just to change it up
going to a different country
trying HARDER to become fluent in korean
joining the peace corps
starting my own damn language school
becoming a monk
keep painting and be a painter
be a singer
be a comedian - I know im funny
write a novel
start a magazine
start a non-profit
reunite women with their inner power
run for president... er...
starting a family
this is could turn into a list of frequently sought after dreams. can this spark something in someone and ya know... well.. i dunno. |

I used to feel like that. Every day I dreamed about leaving America, having a job I actually liked, and learning a non-European language. Now, I'm almost a year into that dream.
My other dreams are all long-term, and don't require much action on my part right now. Action, however, is the key.

I left a cushy job as a geriatric onsultant for health Canada three years ago. Climbed the ladder rather quickly and the next level was not worth the bullsh""t, money or stress.
I have been travelling around the world saving cash, investing money, seeing a great portion of the world for the last three years.
In mid to late 2007 I will be starting my own international geriatric consulting practice, based in Canada. My focus will be "providing solutions to an aging population" both on a micro and a macro level.
I have a masters degree in Gerontology and a wide array of experience that will allow me to assist individuals, families, governments and businesses to increase the "quality of life" of older persons.
I have been working on this plan for three years and I am essentially all set to go. having said that I am doing some self study on marketing which is something that will be crucial as I don't have formal training in that field.
The Baby Boomers will start to turn 65 in Canada and the US in the year 2009. 79% of all $$ in Canada is owned by the boomers, likewise 79% for the US, and similar proportions in all victorious allied WW 2 countries.
Couple that with my inside knowlege and expertise working within Canada's health care system along with my experience living and/or travelling in dozens of countries, I feel I am ready to go at it full time.
Asia is an amazing playing field to me due to the differences in cultural traditions, they seem to respect thier elders and having lived in Asia for two years the potential is limitless.
Working on a couple of patents as well but that is very expensie, but may turn out to be very lucrative.
Thats my plan and I am sticking to it. |

Write a book (English textbook for beginning writers), then get my guts in gear for a novel (long term plan). I came here so that I could have more time to write (over ten years ago), but with family now and more and more teaching, I barely have time to get enough zzz. (I gots great material now--that's what I keep telling myself--it's like a montra now when I wake up from bed in the morning.)
How depressing is that~ |
