I wonder how that show handled the suicide of Freddie Prinze. The theme song is one of the best all-time.

They brought in another character to take Chico's place. It was really bad.

I remember the Man in an episode where he reflected on Chico, but I never got to know why Chico left.

Reminds of the sudden death of John Ritter that brought about the eventual fall of the hit show "8 Simple Rules."

In the third season, they used the excuse that Chico went to visit his family in Mexico. However, one of the last episodes of the 4th season, (might have been the last episode) Raul happened upon some of Chico's possessions, and the old man got very upset and admitted that Chico had died. (But didn't say how.)

So the show was subtle about Chico's disappearance? So sad since the show tried to tackle issues like racism and poverty.

An example of a show abruptly killing off a character due to an actor's death or firing is "Good Times." The show's producers wrote off John Amos aka Mr. Evans for insubordination and the like by just having the family read a letter at the end of one episode saying, "Sorry to inform you that your husband was killed in a car accident the other day."

Tragic how geniuses like Prinze were also captives to depression and the like.

I vaguely remember the show, but not clearly enough to talk about plot twists. You guys must be ancient. Laughing

I was too young for that show, but can anyone tell me what it was about. I've read a few things about Freddie Prinze, but I can't remember the show.

The show's theme song sung by Jose Feliciano is even cooler. I also believe several episodes are available on DVD.
