I keep getting this error while trying to install new, purchased games with original CDs. The frustrating thing is I just formatted all my drives and reinstalled Windows XP one week ago.

Any idea what my problem is?

Thanks

all i know is it means it's having trouble copying files off the cd for some reason. I've had that before where I'm manually copying but not using an installer. Must be something deeper.

when i had that with manual copying, i just cancelled the move, and then re-copied them, and that seemed to work fine. Is it repeating this everytime you try to install?

Are you using any CD empulation software?

It might be that your drive is on the frits or a cable came loose.

I get that from time to time "backing up" DVDs... it's almost always a dirty/scratched disk, or a copy protected disk.

If your disks are clean and not copy protected then the next likely suspect is your optical drive- give it a shot of compressed air to make sure no dust bunnies are interferring with the laser.
