I feel so sad when the Commonwealth's tests are relegated to the dungheap yet TOIEC (TOEIC?) pick and choose tests are given such great reverence.

I heard that for the first time TOIEC has caught up to IELTS (International English Language Testing System) because it offers a spoken requirement rather than just the usual multi choice.

IELTS was designed as a type of requirement for people going to Uni or a Polytech(Academic or General) and is also used on occasion for Immigration points.

TOEFL,a NA equivalent functioned similarly?

How about SEPTS?

I think companies just use Toeic as a general indicator ie if they can do this, they must be reasonably smart. It has nothing to do with being able to communicate, its only concerned with awkward grammar situations.
