My school provided me with a new cellphone. I'm just looking for reassurance that there is no way they'd be able to somehow 'listen in' on my private calls!!!!!

I know it sounds absolutely crazy, but if you worked where I worked you'd have the same paranoid delusions!!!

M....U....S....T get out of H........E.......R......E!!!!!!!!

No, but they probably gave it to you so they can call you in at any time.

You don't have to worry about your cell phone. Your computer at work, however, could be loaded with tracking software to spy on you. Don't visit any naughty sites and watch what you write in your emails. Don't write anything that you wouldn't want your employer to know. If you have secrets or gripes about Korea to share with a friend, go to a PC bang (internet cafe) and write them.

I know. I don't use phones either.

Get others to take your calls for you.

You should dismantle the phone yourself and check if they put a bug in the receiver. It's pretty common these days in Korea.

Also, there's a service at the phone company available for people who want recorded transcripts of all incoming calls.

Be careful man, if you wonder why a lot of english teachers have been suddenly disappearing around you, well, it's not because they were being "good". How many people do you know that actually finished their jobs and went home?

i thought it was serious too. some people expect the worst from korea, some people expect the worst from this board, and a special breed does both.

No, but they could call the phone company and get a record of who who've called. Can't see how that would be significant unless it was, say, the labour board or Korean Law.
