I noticed that David and his compnay Omega Consulting Co. has once again decided to try and drum up business on the cafe. To all those new teachers and prehaps ones who have never heard of David and his lying ways, I'll clue you in, do a search, many many negative things to read about dealings with Omega, do yourself a favor and use a different recruiter or none at all. Lying to and blackmailing teachers is only the begining with him.

Thanks. I'll second that.

I usually try to avoid saying nasty things about recruiters because I think they do actually provide some good service at times, but this particular recruiter is about as straight as a $4 bill...

I had a friend who was ROYALLY screwed by him.

PM me for more info...

I dont like to bad mouth recruiters either because korea does have some good ones but they are few and far between and most of the time you're lucky to find one. I dont care how many bad things I say about Omega because David deserves it.

DAVID KANG
Posted By: MR.X
Date: Monday, 25 February 2002, at 8:15 a.m.
When you deal with a recruiter named David Kang be extremly careful. David will present what ever information is necessary to convince you to accept a givin postion. Once you have accepted that postion, Verbal conversation you have had with MR. KANG may in fact not be true. For Example He may verbally promise no split shifts. Then you may find that the contract with the specific school reads you work 30 hours per week monday to friday, during the schools normall operating hours, which may run from 10-7. Then your specific school prefrence is to have you at school from opening to closing. this means the school will schedule you with class break class break class break. When you ask david kang for support on the promised no split shift issue he will not back you.
Example 2,
before agreeing to a contract MR. Kang may promise you verbally that obtaing a work visa in Korea requirs a trip to Japan and that all expensis incurred in obtaing that visa, including airfare, will be paid by the employing school. There have been casses where the school has insisted that the employee pays for 400,000 won airfare and David Kang has reneged on his promise and backed the school. Be aware Mr. Kang is paid in the equivalent of the teachers one months salary by the hiring school for every teacher recruited, therefore, once the teacher has signed the contract it is Mr. Kangs best interested to keep the school satisfied because they are ones who pay him the money. So, When a despute between the employee and the employer arises Mr. Kang may tend to side with His paying Customer(the school) Despite Verbal promises he may have made to prospective teachers. WARNING, Get everything in writing from Mr. Kang prior to signing any agreements or contracts. Do not be afraid to go into great detail about possible work schedules, Expenses and who pays for them, Prep time for classes paid or unpaid worktime (prep time average 5 hours per week), ETC....

Stay away from David Kang. His only priority is getting you to sign the contract and get you to Korea. Once that's accomplished, his work is done. I and some other teachers at my school were made wonderful promises but ended up finding out that a lot of it was B.S. David Kang is also known for forging diplomas, school stamps, contracts and teachers signatures. In only one example off the top of my head, involving two teachers, they signed a six month contract stating they would recieve one-year benefits (severance pay, plane ticket, etc.) When their contract was up they discovered the contract in the school's possession was not the same as the one they had signed or been promised by Mr. Kang. Somebody (I doubt it was the school) had forged their signatures and their contract.
When you're dealing with a recruiter, its always extremely good advice to have an interview with the managers or owners of the school after you talk to the recruiter and before you sign the contract. Never trust the word of the recruiter alone. Always double check. Fortunately, my new boss and school are pretty good about taking care of their teachers and students, but it's not the dream job I was promised.

Please do not trust Omega consulting. The guy that runs it has had many problems with hagwons looking for him because he lies to the teachers and to them. He has been known for placing unqualified teachers and faking diplomas. Do not trust him.

I was smart enough to avoid signing a contract with David Kang. The contract he sent me was designed to rip-off anyone who signed it. In the contarct it allows the company to shove the teacher from school to school with out the teachers permission. David Kang told me I'd be going to Seoul but I can see that after I got off the plane I'd be told, "By the way there's been a change in plans!" I've taught for 3 years in Korea previously and I know a bad contract. I'd recommend staying away from this guy. Before you sign at a school make sure you talk to other foreign teachers who have been at the school for a while. Show others your contract and get their opinions before you sign it.

David Kang sent me to a school that was having problems with immigration and the teachers were going on "midnight runs" left and right, without mentioning anything about it to me. He got his fee, and I got burned! I would never use him again.

Beware of David Kang!
He is a very small minded recruiter that will only help Canadians and Americans, whom he feels are good looking people. He has been racist towards several of my friends and even me. I sent him my CV and he had no problem with me and even offered me a job right away! But, when I went to go meet with him in Seoul (I live in Korea already), he treated me very poorly and told me that the job offered to me an hour ago was no longer available and that he would not help me find another. I am a Canadian born, Spanish decent man, and after he saw me, he lied to me and ignored me from then on in. I found a job within 2 days of that without any racism at all!
Be careful of him, he has a very bad rep. here in Korea and is not to be trusted. Do your own search and avoid all rectuiters!
Good luck

Sooo true.. David will place you in the first available school that comes up and you'll never hear from him again. Mine ended up taking huge advantage and every foreign teacher placed there by him tried time and again to contact him for any kind of help, but funny.. he was no where to be found.

What is wrong with all you people. Those of you who live in Korea don't even need a recruiter. If you present yourself well enough to someone, you will find a job so easy. STOP YOUR FRICKIN WHINING!!!!.Recruiters in Korea are headhunters and get paid per head. Just like any other country. Why do people think recruiters or wonjang's have to be your friends. They employ you. Not breast feed you!!!!If you go to Korea or anywhere else. Stop expecting people to spoon feed you.
You want to be spoon fed. Work as a government employee.
I went through David. Sure he is a fast talker. But he is no different than others. He got me what I wanted. If I had a problem,he fixed it. Lucky for me being a longtime veteran instructor. I didn't need him to hold my hand.

WHY DON'T YOU ALL JUST GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!

Is there something "wrong" with you? I thought that a "longtime veteran instructor" like yourself wouldn't need a recruiter ... what happened to just presenting yourself well to someone??? Wink

Obviously not. But many recruiters promise help, if need be, with such things as contract disputes, misunderstandings, etc. If they promise such things but can't help (or are unwilling to) then that fact should be brought to others' attention.

Personally, I think most recruiters will screw you, so I keep them all at arm's length.

Well, since this post was started I think I owe any newbie looking to find a job here in Korea a response. I too went through Omega Colsulting about 6 months ago and got nothing but headaches. I should've known better and went with my gut. I ended up getting a job I didn't want. Yah, it sounds like I'm a baby but when there are so many jobs out there you wanna get the one you really want instead of the one he wants you to get. I was lied to and left out to hang. I didn't get the support I was promised either. Whiny or not, I was only here for a week and didn't know what I was getting into. Should've looked into it a little more. Do yourself a favor and go through another recruiter or none at all.

The key to recruiters is to make them work for you. They'll offer you the crappiest thing that they have first, and you say no. Then just forget about them. They'll call you back (often many, many times) either offering you the same thing, or trying something different (different bait for different fish). Keep them going until you hear something you like, then say "OK, I'll work there". You have to do research though. Trusting a recruiter to find you a good job is like trusting a used car salesman to sell you the best car on his lot. It just isn't going to happen. Not in this world. I managed to get Lee's Manpower to find me a highschool job, and they have the worst reputation in Korea. They kept saying "oh, work at this Hakwon, work at that Hakwon" and I kept saying no, find me a highschool. They eventually did.

The girl at my school had two good recruiters, when she had problems they came in and had a meeting with my bosses and got her a letter of release and she only had to pay back a small chunk of her airfare. They also offered to find her a new job.

My beef with many recruiters is that they email you asking for your reusme, which is already posted, and other info and tell you of a job offer then never talk with you again. That goes for employers as well, a bit of common courtesy goes a long way, if they're not giving you the job a simple email stating that would be nice. It's fine if you apply among 100's of others and don't hear back, but if they contact you, ask for more info and such and talk about interviews, they should follow it up one way or another. DAVID is among those who don't.Evil or Very Mad

I think going and finding the job own your own is the best bet, and always ask for references from the present and past teachers.
