Has anyone done a visa run to Fukuoka recently?
I'm a late uni hire and they don't have the papers together yet so I don't know how long I will have to wait ... but would like to find CHEAPEST way for me to get visa.
I gather there is a ferry from Pusan that's pretty cheap. Has anyone taken this?
Also, does Fukuoka do one-day turnaround on visas or would I have to stay overnight?
What does the visa cost these days anyway? I seem to remember you have to bring Japanese yen or US Dollars.
Thanks.... appreciate your advice |

bring yen, and bring lots of it. if your uni doesn't have all the paperwork in order yet, there's a good chance you could end up in a situation similar to the one i was in last year. do a search with my name and fukuoka, and it shouldn't be too difficult to find. good luck.
p.s. i took the ferry. it was cheap. |

Check out the sticky on this topic in the travel forum. Very helpful.
Think of it as a two-day mini-vacation and have fun. |

I did it twice in an almost back to back situation. You can take the ferry to Fukuoka, and stay in the Central Hotel. You can take a bus from there direct to the football stadium/ shopping mall. I forget the exact number, but I think the staff should be able to tell you.
You can get a package deal of 1/2 nights that sorts out all your problems. |

I did it last year through http://kangsantravel.com/ They are in Busan and have an English-speaking agent.
There's a package hydrofoil plus hotel for under 200,000 won (I recall).
They deal with visa trippers all the time.
Contact them and your worries are over. They give good directions. And from the hotel, simply take a taxi or else save yourself 15,000 won and take the bus (as the hotel front office staff are well aware of.
The Korean embassy is near the huge Fukuoka Dome baseball stadium (and the Hard Rock Cafe), very near, like two blocks away, not even that! So just head there.
It was much easier than I thought it would be. Don't sweat it. |

The ferry is cheap..but you will have to take the earliest one (8:00 AM I think, have a Korean friend call and find out). If you take any later ones, you will get to the consulate too late to do the visa that day.
You will have to stay overnight. In Hakata(sp?) Station though there are a number of free computer terminals where you can look for overnight lodging. The Sun hotels are directly across the street from the back of the station and are quite cheap. The Clio Court hotel is to one side of the station, but is about twice as expensive, though the rooms are larger.
The visa will cost about six thousand YEN. In the ferry terminal in Busan on the first floor, there is a foreign exchange counter. I would budget for about 30,000 yen minimum plus ferry charges. Won can not be exchanged in Japan to the best of my knowledge, so get it done in Korea first.
Hope this helps. |

The situation has changed a little..
Shinhan Bank has a won changing facility in the Fukuoka terminal on the ground floor of the ferry complex..
However once you get out those front doors...i hope you have plenty of yen...
Just ring up Kangsan, won't get it any cheaper..they must deal with many visa trippers every week |
