For the Americans, are your mouths watering over Korea's "super food?"
American's Mouths Water Over Korea's 'Super Food'
As the health benefits of Korea's representative dish are being touted all around the world, Kimchi is emerging as a "super food" in the U.S. The Washington Post published a special feature article on kimchi in its Sunday edition that featured an interview with Korean food expert Shin Hi-soo (69) along with the recipe for kimchi pancakes.

Kimchi rocks. A tasty & healthful food.
Deserves acknowledgement on the global menu. |

Yeah.
And who paid the Post to do the story and include the supplement, I wonder? |

Ummmmmm ...
Isn't the "scientific" jury still out on whether KIMCHI ( thought largely to be because of the crappy preservatives ) contributes to Korea's exceedingly high level of STOMACH CANCER?

I did this for a advertisement dialogue with my HS students. Perhaps they could give it a go.
Mrs. A: Marge, I have a problem. Im having a big dinner party Friday night, and Ive got a great main dish planned.
Mrs. B: So whats the problem?
Mrs. A: I just cant think of a good side dish.
Mrs. B: A good side dish? Have you heard about Lotte Kimchi?
Mrs. A: Lotte Kimchi? Whats that?
Mrs. B: Its a great little side dish imported from Korea.
Mrs. A: From Korea? Whats it like?
Mrs. B: Its made with delicious Korean cabbage left to rot, marinated in zesty hot pepper sauce.
Mrs. A: Now theres an appetizing idea. How do you serve it?
Mrs. B: You leave it outside in a big kimchi pot, scoop out as much as you want, and chop it up with heavy-duty scissors.
Mrs. A: That sounds easy and delicious. What does it go with?
Mrs. B: It goes wells with meat, chicken, fish, and even breakfast foods could always use a little kimchi.
Mrs. A: Im planning to serve Yorkshire pudding. Do you think Lotte Kimchi will go well with that?
Mrs. B: Honey, Lotte Kimchi will go well before, after, beside, on top of, and even in your Yorkshire pudding. Its Koreas gift to side dishes and flavor.
Narrator: When you cant think of a side dish think Lotte Kimchi. Koreas gift to side dishes and flavor. |

The only Koreans who seem to know that kimchi is not loved worldwide are those who have travelled at all.
Kudos to the kimchi propaganda machine for convincing a whole population that their national dish is not actually a mediocre sidedish unknown outside of about three countries.
In saying that.....I like it...not a lot, but I like it.
Tip......Sure way to get on Korean TV. Be a foreigner in a country that's not called Korea and serve kimchi with your meals. You will be on KBS for 5 nights running. |

The newer stuff is OK, a little boring.
The old rancid stuff is absolutely revolting and produces the most revolting bad breath ever. I hate the subway when it is full of middle aged Koreans reeking of Kimchi, urine and soju.
Kimchi is generally the most over rated thing ever. |

What a crappy headline.
American's Mouths Water Over Korea's 'Super Food'
Why not just write "American mouths water over..."
Kimchi is a fine little dish. It's sauerkraut with zip. Goes well on bbq sausages. But America is about burger and fries. Kimchi would offend 80% of Americans.
Anyone ever tasted un-fermented Japanese version called "kimuchi"? There's a shabu shabu place in Hyehwa that serves it. It's really good. Much better, actually, than the fermented Korean kimchi. |

Sometimes you get lucky and find a really good kimchi. But it's like most Korean foods: gets tiring when you're halfway through eating it. |

American newspapers are writing about kimchi because the sheer novelty of kimchi warding off bird flu is too good to pass up. I believe there was also a spike in Korea stories when kimchi was the magic elixir for SARS. |

It's funny that one article in an American newspaper has Koreans pissing their pants with excitement over how Americans are drooling over their coveted rotton cabbage.
This is an example of pathetic nationalism.
Kimchi will never fly anywhere in North America other than in a Korean restaurant. And even there, probably only Koreans will eat it. It's revolting stuff. |
