|

A lot of people who know that I'm moving to South Korea next year are starting to freak out a little and ask me if I'm sure I want to go there given the current situation with North Korea. Is anyone living there now worried about staying? I have my heart set on South Korea and I need to decide now if I need to go somewhere else... |

Honestly, you shouldn't ask other people what they think about this for an answer, you should ask yourself.
The best thing to do is some research on North Korea. Get an idea about their culture and their leader, Kim Jong Il, and about their relationship with the south.
But to actually answer your question, basically no one cares about what happened. |

Agree with hapkido. I don't feel the least worried, but you've got to figure that out for yourself. |

I'm so close to north korea that any invasion/missile sending would render me toasted pretty fast. It worries me about as much as it worries the thousands of koreans i see in my area everyday, which by the looks of it is very little.
If their was to be some kind of conflict then so long as you don't bite a bullet it's kind of too your advantage as the mass exodus of foreigners from the south is going make the job packages a lot more lucrative.
I think you should research for yourself and come to your own conclusions. |

You also should take close note of the fact that "the current situation with North Korea" has been more or less the current situation with North Korea for 54 years. And there have been times in those 54 years when war was much more likely than now: squads of Nork agents speeding through Seoul to kill the President; American soldiers hacked to death with axes by Nork goons at the DMZ to stop the Americans from chopping a tree down; the bombing of a Korean Air flight; pretty much all of Syngman Rhee's tenure, when he desperately wanted to resume the war to finish the North off and the Americans wouldn't let him.
Yes, something *could* happen, but don't get too sucked in by CNN hysterical "CRISIS!" hype that makes it seem like war's just about to break out. And pay zero attention to North Korean threats.
Worry more about getting paid on time, doing a good job for your students, and having your contract honored. |

North Korea can't do anything right.....they did the missle test to get attention fromt he international community and five seconds later it kicks off in the middle east and everyone goes back to ignoring them. |

I've been thinking about that. Lebanon makes it likely that KJI's trying to think of something else to do so people will pay attention to him again, doesn't it? Maybe a nuclear test? |

You will find that the only people really worried about the situation are those americans who watch the news too much...
South koreans dont really care..the japanese dont really care..nobody else cares.
US media are the only ones whipping this stuff up.
Dont worry. |

If you're really worried you can always look for a school that is inside a bomb shelter and pays on time. |

The Lemon is right.
At this time, the Norks are not threatening the South. Why should they? The Uri Party is rolling over for them.
The international uproar is not about the Norks shooting off missiles to threaten the South. The uproar, fully justified, is about the Norks developing both nukes and missiles and then selling them on the international market to whoever has enough cash. The South should be concerned for exactly the same reasons everyone else is, plus the danger that someday the Norks may want to blackmail them. |

i tend to be more worried about being paid on time than north korea actually making good on any threats. |
