Weird. It's a mitsubishi brand in the commercial, same concept as the Korean a/c though. I never thought I'd see it here because I'd always assumed it was inferior air conditioning to the duct system. Apparently not! Interesting, thought I'd pass it on.

Hope this isn't old news...

I would say it's much inferior to the duct system, but many places in North America don't have the duct system and rely on those thinggies in the window. The Korean stye seems better than the big boxes in the windowds.l

In Europe most houses have same AC system like here. Compressor outside and head unit side.

US houses are designed and built with a duct system so they can have it as central air.

If you have an old house or older house this system as we have here in Korea or Europe is the only feasible solution.

And its not inferior at all.

The duct system uses stonger filters, so is much cleaner. As well, the addition of cold air returns makes for much better circulation.

I do not agree about the stronger filters part. Also, over time, dust and hence bacteria can acumulate in the ducts themselves.

Cold air returns are not install everywhere.

All-in-all, if I am building a new house I would like to have a central duct type air since I can have one unit cooling my whole house.

If I am adding on something, a "Korean" type of AC would be great, with HEPA filter, ion maker, artificial wind, and all other cool stuff and preferably a true fuzzy logic controler to keep the temperature cycling more flat.

Window units are far from good, and free-standing units like you can see in the restaurants are mediocre, since fresh air input is limited.

For heating, I would use water radiators not forced hot air heating using ducts which is found in US houses.
For example German Buderus http://www.buderus.net/ (US site) and similar Viessman or Vaillant http://www.vaillant.de/.
