Just finished losing to Finland 2-0 after losing by the same score to SWITZERLAND yesterday.
Gee, I'm sure glad Smyth and Doan are on this team instead of Stall and Crosby. |

They certainly don't seem to be playing as a team thats for sure. I think alot of it has to do with the coach. Pat Quinn has never been a good coach, to me it was amazing that all of the great coaches in Canada and they pick a guy that has been a constant loser.
I also believe they made crucial errors in naming the team. The logic they said was experience, experience and more experience. Not a good recipe for Canada's present chances and certainly not for the future outlook either.
Its criminal that Staal is not on that team, he has been one of three most dominat players in the NHL this year, not just Canadians but everyone included. I am from Thunder Bay and I had the pleasure of officiating Staal for about four years, this guy will be a SUPERSTAR
Spezza ya, you would have to be an idiot not to have picked him as his linemate in Ottawa was on the team, thats just a no brainer.
Sid the kid, ya he should be there also, to me these three guys will be the core of the future, he is exciting, talented and pretty tough for a small guy.
Other guys they overlooked that should be there are Alex Tanguay, Brendan Shannahan and Paul Kariya and on defense Pheneuf and what about a couple saty at home solid defenseman. you could pick from any of a half dozen guys there also.
Its typical of Canada to make these errors, having said that I am hoping that they can pull it together.
There best chance is this. PUT GRETZKY BEHIND THE BENCH AND LET QUINN SIT IN THE BOOTH EATING PASTA AND DRINKING WINE THATS WERE HE SHOULD BE |

| Despair not, there's still the Canadian women's team vs Sweden to perhaps salvage what's left of our gold medal hockey honour.... |

Even though I am a Maple Leafs fan, I have never been a Quinn supporter. However, he was the coach of our Gold medal team and World Cup team ... so your claim that he is a constant loser is flawed.
I think when you have an "all star" team like this, very little has to do with the coach. It's up to the players to come together and find a way to click. It's not like he's favoring a crappy player (say, giving Tie Domi more than 1 minute of ice time ) over a good player. All these guys are great and should be able to perform. The only way I feel a coach can screw up with so many great players is when it comes time to picking 5 guys for a shootout (a la Marc Crawford '9
The only guy that should not, without a doubt, be on this team is Bryan McCabe. Shane Doan was amazing in the World Cup and a physical presence like his is needed. Ryan Smith usually plays well for Canada. Actually, I guess Draper is another one who should be vacationing back home instead of Staal. To come to think of it, Bertuzzi's numbers this year haven't even been that great. So perhaps he has been another mistake.
But come one, with SO many great players in Canada, it is easy to second guess their picks. We easily could have put together a whole nother team that could compete with everyone else |

That is just a sideshow. Nothing will make up for the Men's humiliating performance. |

| Yeah guys don't twist your ankle jumping off the bandwagon....sure we lost a couple games but it does nothing at all to affect our medal chances....we could lose on Tuesday as well and still get in to the quarters |

| Choosing a team is not just choosing the best players. Each player has a role to fill and that is how the team is picked. It is easy to second guess after the team has been picked and they have lost a couple of games. I think that they have the right people but they have been sucked in to playing the other team's style of game and not setting the pace themselves. This is where Canadian hockey seems to get in trouble in international competitions. Also remember that they have already qualified for the next round regardless of the outcome of today's Finland game or the Czech game. |

I haven't been able to see much Olympic hockey, but I caught some of the US-Latvia game. From what I have seen, the competition is pretty good. Latvia looked quite good and there not even one of the better teams.
I'm Canadian and I was disappointed to hear about the loss to the Swiss. And then Finland. Hmm.
Does anyone have a cable schedule? It's like hit and miss for me now. I can get the times of the games, but it seems there is no regular schedule or they hardly air any games.
Anyway, these losses make it a hell of a lot more interesting. Maybe it'll be Slovakia and Finland in the final. |

| The losses may, however, give Canada a psychological edge somehow in the playoffs. |
