Being in Korea and obviously watching a lot of speed skating, something occured to me today.
I understand that during a single race you can only go in one direction. Having said that, right over left, right over left , right over left time and time again should not constitute the fastest skater in the world.
I would be interested in seeing the Olympics and World Cup adopt races that test the athletes skills in both directions. It wouldn't be that difficult, going closckwise add your time to going counterclockwise add your time etc.
I think that maybe it would be more accurate in honouring the fastest speed skaters in the world. Its an exciting sport to watch but somehow it just seems to be incomplete due to the one direction.
Just a thought!!!!
Oh ya hats off to the Korean Speed Skaters, an amazing showing to say the least. I remember the Canadians, Germans, US and Dutch dominating the sport in the past. You would have to say now its dominated by the Koreans, Chinese and to a lesser extent the above mentioned countries.
Hats off to the Koreans, hopefully there athletes will continue to improve and excell in other winter Olympic events, as it seems now all there eggs are in one basket. |
