I had no idea it takes over a year to process your pension refund if you apply in Canada. That's what I found out today. Of course, I was quite angry about it.
I couldn't apply for the pension refund while I was in Korea because I didn't have a Canadian account and they couldn't guarantee that I would have the money in my Korean account before I left the country.
So the guy at the pension office told me to apply when I get to Canada. The only way to do that is through the International Benefits Office of Human Resources Development Canada.
It seemed easy enough...I mailed my application in and my understanding was that it would take about 3 months to process.
I called HRDC today to check the status (it's already been over two months). They told me my application is in the pile for processing in February 2007. THEY'RE A FULL YEAR BEHIND IN PROCESSING APPLICATIONS!!
I think this is absolutely ridiculous and made my opinion quite clear to them. They told me to contact my MP and complain...which I did today. We'll see what she can do about this (she's a Conservative, so hopefully that will help).
It's an example of how slow the Canadian government is. This is what our very high taxes pay for. What do they do there...sit around and pick their noses all day?
I also contacted the Korean embassy in Ottawa and they told me I have no choice but to go through HRDC for this...I can't just send an application directly to Korea now.
Anyone else had this problem? |
