Hi, I'm thinking I need some sort of goal to train for. Any marathons in Korea that you know of for August-October? Any ultramarathons for sometime in the range of November 2006-March 2007?
Any good links for running in Korea?
Thanks! |

I can send you a calendar of Korean ultra events and Asian ultra/marathons.....Ive been the only foreigner doing ultras (done 4 since the summer) in Korea and am considered a bit of an oddity. LOve the comradery, the runners, the maekoli afterwards and chat......Ultra running as is marathoning, BIG here. I"ve run all over the world and Korean runners have my heart. They have big hearts.........and lots of them doing it.
I'm running the Dong A marathon next weekend, the 12th , for training. over 55,000 entered. Then Jeongju 100k , over 600 entered. Then April 1st is the run you should do......Jeju ultra. 2 races. One around the island, 202 km . Starting at the same time is the one I am doing, to the top of Mt. Halla and back, 148 km........
As an aside, there is a running club here. Seoul Synergy. Lots of training runs, good group and I usually run on Sat. with them. Start at 7 am at the turtle ship, by the river at Ichon station. www.seoulsynergy.com , me thinks.
Keep running.

Ps. www.kumf.org has a race calendar. |

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised that you're the only foreigner doing ultras. I haven't actually done one but I think I need a post-marathon challenge so am interested in getting into it. I'll pm you with my email and could you send me the calender? Thanks! |

DD, for those of us with more modest ambitions (and who don't like having leg cramps for 4 days) could you recommend any good halfs? |

ya gotta start somewhere and a half is better than a quarter (although I think the toughest race is a damn half mile!!!! lung/leg burner). I will ask Wed and Thurs, run with Koreans then about which is a great half to run. In the meantime here is a list of those upcoming.....I'm going to try to make the Adidas King of the road......

Start? I've done five marathons. I'm just thinking that I don't have the time to train up and I guess I'm just not that masochistic anymore.
But thanks a lot for the leads. Based on my PBs I'd say the half is more my race anyways. |

Hey Sorry but didn't mean it like that..........meant, it was something to start towards an ultra. In any case, doesn't matter the distance, it is all about how fast you run them..............meaning, how much of your best you get out of yourself........we are all an experiment of one.

Oh no, I totally see your point.
But actually I do think there's something to be said for distance. Breaking a 4:30 mile is definitely not the same feeling as crossing that 26 mile 385 yard line for the first time. |
