So I think just about everyone has had an experience with a recruiter not replying to their mails or returning their calls, at one time or another.
I'm wondering why exactly some recruiters are so hesistant to even do the courtesy of a call back. Is it that they are too busy ?
Speaking of which - what exactly does the daily routine of a recruiter consist of ?
Any recruiters out there that can fill me in ? |

And why is it that some recruiters never reply to your application and/or job enquiry? What's the deal with that? |

a) They run a shoddy business.
b) Sheer volume of application and they have to sift through a lot of crap and then choose the applications they feel qualify for employment. |

Maybe because (for the good recruiters anyway) it takes roughly 12 applications to get 1 good teacher.
Hence they need volume to get a few quality applicants. |

Recruiters do have to go through mountains of applications..
For every one half decent one there are 10-15 bad ones...
Some of the guys that apply...you would shake your head...
Another thing is the mountain of applications they get from people such as the Phillipines, indonesia, india,etc....
-With these guys even if you tell them they are not eligable they will still reply back asking for a job and thanking you for an interest in them...
It is a pretty tough job if you do it properly.... |

Based on my experiences over the past two weeks with recruiters, my guess would be that they sit and stew in their own uselessness. Complete idiots, the lot of them! |

What a bunch of complainers...
If you think recruiters are so bad why don't you get of your own ass and look for the job yourself????
-Don't tell me recruiters have cornered the market because that is bullcrap....do the groundwork and fly yourself over, you will find a much better job in all likelyhood...
Recruiters on the whole don't lie, cheat.steal.etc...like you guys make out. Their job is to put a body in a position and sometimes the directors of the schools don't want your body due to various reasons...is that the recruiters fault????
So before you start complaining just remember, the recruiter is only there to link a person to a position....it is the place you work you have to worry about.
If you get stuck in a place that is not the best it isn't the recruiters fault as it is not his/her job to check the reputation of the school, that is your job. If you get placed in a bad position then you only have yourself to blame....
Do you think recruiters in the west give a toss about the reputation of a firm. in the west we always check how good a company is to work for, why does common sense go out the window when people come overseas and you should be even more careful???? |

In answer to your questions.....
I have seen both of ends of the stick...teacher and recruiter(I have never been a recruiter but one of my best friends here is - I think I'll stick to teaching due to the idiocy of some individulas he recruits) so I'll try to answer as honestly as possible...
1. Why hasn't he called
-Maybe you just were not suited for the position, maybe you were too fat, old, young, black, asian, male, female...there are plenty of reasons. I know that sounds terrible but it is true. Basically I recruiter will get 25-100 applicants per position.
It is virtually impossible to ring them all up(more so if the recruiter is based in Korea - time difference is a killer night after night) so the only ones to get a call back are ones that are in with a chance. perhaps a definite and 2 alternates...
2. Are they too busy
-In all likelyhood yes. You will not be the only one the have to worry about. If they are advertising and filling 10 positions concurrently you can imagine how busy they can be....
3.Daily routine...
-It would vary from day to day...
Things to do would be
-Look at new applications everyday
-List new job listings
-Network with directors or potential directors to fill jobs
-Assist in problems that current teachers are having(yes, not all recruiters are bad) although some of the time i would shoot some of the newbies that come in and complain about some of the problems...much stupider than anything you complain about on here about Koreans.
-Ring westerners about various jobs and getting them set up and ready..
that is some of the various things they have to do... |

Good lord! What are you smokin'? 'Cause I want some.
Recruiters routinely make promises which they can't or have no intention of keeping. For instance:
"If you have any problems with your school just call me, and I'll help you out."
Absolute nonsense. As you mentioned in your post, the purpose of a recruiter is simply to hook up an employer with an employee. However, as a matter of course, they bamboozle and make false claims such as the example I've provided. Not only do I and many people I know have firsthand experience with this, but just read this board, man!! |
