I am soooo new at this...have so many questions!! I am really really interested in traveling. To start my adventure, I am considering teaching in Korea, going through Fred Lee and ECY...but I have not been able to find any information about them... good or bad. I have a BS in Elementary Ed, 3 years experience teaching elem. school in the states. I am taking the TEFL course in Prague in July through Next Level.
Does anybody know anything about ECY? I am looking for both negative and positive. Thanks!!

If anyone has a definite great school or an opening that they know of I would be appreciate a note!

Is Fred Lee the recruiter your thinking of using?

If so here are some previous posts about Fred Lee, hagwon recruiter.

Fred used to work, maybe still does, with that wonderful institute Wonderland. Anybody who works with those schools, cannot be trusted.

In my job search I received a contract from Fred Lee. Contract from hell; they get everything you get nothing. The most interesting part was that the contract had an Assignment and Notice clause which reads:
"16. ASSIGNMENT AND NOTICES
Any assignment, attempted assignment, transfer, or attempted transfer of this agreement or of the performance of duties and obligations hereunder will immediately terminate this Agreement, unless the parties hereto expressly agree in writing otherwise. All notices to be given under this Agreement will be given in writing by serving the same upon the person to whom the notice is addressed personally or by registered mail at the address of such party given in this agreement or for the Employee once in Korea, at the residence in Korea, as notified to the Employer."
I've never seen an Assignment clause in a TEFL contract before. If you are not sure of the impact of this clause, it means that the contract you have is with the school as it exists and no other entity. Any transfer or attempt to transfer terminates the agreement immediately.
Given that the contract pays all the big benefits like return airfare, severance pay, RELEASE LETTERS, upon completion of the contract, this could cause a problem. Termination is not completion.
If they leased the school to a different entity, you would have no contract.
If they sold the school to a different entity you would have no contract.
If they reorganized their corporate structure so that the school became a different corporate entity, you would have no contract.
If they ATTEMPTED to lease or sell the school, you would have no contract.
I asked about these things and never heard from Fred Lee again.

If he is Fred Lee from Yong-in, look somewhere else.

This man is a liar and he does not care about the teachers that he "recruits" (sells).

I'll have to stick up for Fred Lee (Yong-in) here, the service and help I got from him was absolutely first class. I don't work at Wonderland so I guess he recruits for other schools too (mine is a small hagwon)
He picked me up at the airport, drove me to my new town, took me and the director out for lunch and gave me a load of other foreign teacher phone-numbers. He even visited the school a month or so later to see how I was getting on. I've not had any need to contact him since though so I can't comment on his approachability.
I recommended him to 2 other people who have used him to come over, and 1 more person will come here through him during the summer.

That's a thumbs-up from me for Fred Lee, though it seems like I'm the only one..

(and on the point about the contract clause, it's nowhere to be seen in mine...)

Mind you, I was one of the guys you recommended him to and he didnt help me much at all.

1. Didnt pick me up at the airport
2. FORGOT TO TELL THE SCHOOL I WAS COMING TO KOREA!!!!
3. Put me in a crappy school that didnt pay my salary.

So its hit and miss with this guy.
