i have had this weird ache in my ankle... for... um... let's see two weeks now... it feels like it needs to stretch, all the tendons on the top of my foot ache and the more i rotate and stretch it the worse it seems... it feels a little better today... i wonder if my el cheapo Wal Mart dress shoes are to blame... i don't really walk to far in them though, my school is close and once i am there i am planted in my chair 70% of the day, if not longer... any thoughts... |

Teaching all day, I am always on my feet. I got a pair of good Birkenstocks, and they are the most comfortable shoes and the easiest on my feet.
Gym shoes are not as good since they don't give as much support because they are designed to absorb shock, not support static weight. The Birkenstocks are pretty expensive, especially if you get the covered clogs that I got that look like real shoes rather than sandals (I always felt that wearing sandals in class made the teacher seem less professional).
I also went once to an acupuncturist when I sprained my ankle, and it cleared up instantly, although he still recommended that I stay off the foot for a while. When I looked up the acupuncturist again a while back, he was gone. If you find and good one, hang on and keep tabs. Not all acupuncturists are the same and I found that the ones on States side in Chinatown or in Korea town are not remotely as good as the ones in their native countries.
I also go to a foot masseuse every once in a while and pay him money to massage my feet. It is expensive, but they keep me going. Nothing irritates me in class more than my feet hurting, and I feel that that irritation equates into my attitude in class, a very bad connection. |

I had a similar problem once. It seemed out of nowhere my foot started hurting every time I took a step. I seriously thought I might have slightly fractured my foot or something. I saw a doctor who sent me to a physical therapist. Long story short the majority of my problem was the shoes I was wearing. The soles had worn down unevenly, and over time this caused problems for my tendons. I have heard from others as well that the wrong shoes can cause this type of problem. I would try out some other shoes for a week or two and see if it helps. |
