Today I we did a game in the form of Channel 4's countdown show.
They REALLY REALLY enjoyed it.
Basically they choose 8 letters, and can choose from consonants and vowels. Then they have 1minute to make the longest word they can. The group with the longest word gets however many points that word is worth (4letters, 4 points etc.)
After two rounds of that then they have a number game, they choose between big numbers (25,50,75,100) and small numbers (1-10) then they get given a random number and again they have one minute to get as close as they can to it. The group which gets the number first or is closest to it gets 10 points.
Two more normal rounds and one more numbers and then you give them a 8 letter conundrum, they have to find the 8 letter word. We used shopping. Again it gets them 10 points.
The kids were utterly absorbed. They really loved the maths round, and by preteaching them multiply, divide etc. You get them to speak in front of the class their solution.
Lots of fun, give it a try. |
