|
|
As part of my current job I'm often entertaining a mixed-age group of people from outside of the country. This usually extends to after dinner, so people are looking for someplace fun and lively....however, we're talking about folks from the US, Canada, UK, Hong Kong, etc...ages 30-60, so M2 or Limelight is out of the question.
Typically we go to JJ's at the Hyatt or GimmeFive at COEX, but people come into Korea repeatedly so going to the same place gets a bit boring.
So....anybody know of other places in the JJ's/GimmeFive vein, large and commercial, but fun, and upscale enough for older professional types to feel comfortable.
Any ideas? |

Have you tried Apgujeong?
Once in a Blue Moon (jazz club)
S Bar
Both are located in the California Fitness vicinity. OIABM is on the same street as Cali Fitness, while S Bar is hidden in the backstreets somewhere. |

Thanks guys, good suggestions....
Also just realized that the Finance Center has great options and a classy wine bar that'll work....
If it was up to me I'd just give'em an introduction to soju the hard way...but I don't think that'll work. |

the bar at the Hilton (right? Top of the hill) in Itaewon is very nice, Agio in Hongdae is very pleasant if you're sat on the patio- no loud music at either of these places |

Yes, I always liked the Oak Room, and I was a long-term habituee with lunch every day and beers most evenings too.
But, the music (quiet-ish) is not first-rate right now. I hope they change the current duo soon. |

Huh. What years would that have been? That was me sitting at the bar or near it, reading the Economist & FEER on ... Thursday evenings I think it was. Anyway, it was whichever day the new issues hit the stands. Beer & the snacks they laid on, plus the occasional Jameson double. I tinkled on their piano a few times when no-one but me and the waitresses were around. Was a once-a-week regular for about three years when I lived nearby. '96-'98. I don't recall going there since. Didn't even remember what it was called until I read your post. It's on the basement level, right? Real dark till your eyes adjust. I tripped over the steps going in a few times, and that was before I ordered.

1999 to mid 2001 ..... I used to stand up and play bass for a few songs most evenings too .... between reading the Economist! Always the table immediately inside the door.
Such sorties were more or less stopped when I met my wife .... she said she had better things to do with the money! |

The east side of Taehangno is filled with "theme" restaurants and bars (plus a jazz bar called "Once in a Thousand Years", or something) which can be an interesting change from the hotel bar scene. A good introduction to Koreans' "night out" culture, yet not as hectic (ie: filthy) as the Hongdae/Shinchon/Itaewon scene. |
