Wow, lots of requests for used laptops lately.

Good luck. If you can't find one, then buy one outside of Korea, if possible, or have it brought here to you. You can also have a Korean friend help you find one on the internet auction sites, but it will be used. Personally, I'd be scared to buy a used one. Especially in Korea. And the savings in price won't be much better than new.

The lowest prices I seem to see on new laptops in Korea is about 900,000 won. I've seen them for that price (or a tad more) at Carrefour at Yatap station, on the yellow line, in Bundang. Also, seen them at Link-O in the COEX Mall at Samsung station on the green line in Seoul.

Overseas, you can get them for about 300,000 won less. The best deals are from the USA, and Dell, for example. Dell Korea isn't as good a deal. Good old Korean price controls keep tax/prices high.

Here are some Dell Korea prices on the low-end, but they will also charge you 10% VAT (tax) on top of it.

I don't know why people can't just get 2 cheap desktops. I have never ever seen anyone "working" on their laptop in the subway or on the bus.

Laptops (notebooks) are nice if you don't want clutter at home. I can't stress it more -- if you want a laptop in Korea, then BUY BEFORE YOU COME HERE! Save yourself some money, and enjoy windows in English to boot.

If course, we don't always have the money to do that ahead of time.

Yongsan Electronics market has a used section and there are lots and lots of laptops for every budget. Get off at Sinyongsan station and exit exit five. Walk straight about 300 meters and you will hit a tunnel. At the end of this pedestrian tunnel there is a building directly on your right. Go to the second floor (on the other side of the building I guess you could say its the first floor).
