Steven Spielberg's latest film was just released in Korea today. If you haven't heard about it, it's based on a true story. Eric Bana plays a Mossad agent responsible for hunting down European-based Arab terrorists responsible for organizing the taking and killing of 11 Israeli athlete hostages at the 1972 Olympics.
It's a long one (about 2h 40m), but it's interesting and doesn't seem too long. The story is great, is relevant to today's issues, and if you're a *beep* for violence like me, you won't be disappointed. There are many great shots of terrorists getting completely wasted from up close with all sorts of firearms. Now that I think about it, this is possibly the most violent movie I have seen in a long time!
The one disadvantage with seeing it in Korea is that there are a few very short instances where people are speaking Arabic, Hebrew, German, French, and Italian which are often subtitled in Korean but never in English, so you might miss out on a little bit of the dialogue, but not much.
All in all, I give it two AKs up. |

Well, the only true event the movie was based on was the murder of the athletes and the fact a Mossad squad was hired to track down the organizer of the massacre. Everything goes downhill from there because the book on which the movie is based (Vengeance: The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team) has been proven to be a total fabrication. In other words, it's more like ET than Shindler's List. Nevertheless, it's actually the second movie that was based on the book (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092038/). Spielberg's version, a critic of Israel's treatment of Palestinians, is rather sympathetic to the Palestinians. It got some good reviews, though. |

I thought it was pretty average. It wasn't very natural filmaking. Everything looked very forced.
The pacing was a bit off as well. There were long sections in the movie that just didn't hold my attention.
And the French group lead by Papa was really stupid. The scene where Eric goes to his house and gets an explanation of their raison d'etre was very juvenile and badly written. .
I did like how the paranoia of that lifestyle was communicated though. |

Yep, Hollywood lately loves to fiddle with facts to make a hit film, as it did with Denzel Washington's "The Hurricane" and earlier with "Erin Brockovich." |

Great movie, but also don't forget the made-for-TV film "Sword of Gideon" that also was based on George Jonas' book.
The film was a bit long but I enjoyed it. |
