... and other famous whoppers that girls tell the guys they're looking to dump.
[Think of this as the obverse of Kermo's Clever Pick-up Lines thread. Call it the Pathetic Break-up Lines thread, but I want to be specific about this: This thread is for lines that girls use on guys, not the other way around. Keep all responses STRICTLY on topic and nobody gets hurt.]
Now this one -- "You deserve someone better than me" -- is, of course, the ne plus ultra of feminine duplicity. What they actually mean is, "I deserve someone better than you". They'll often serve up this shaggy old excuse with a side dish of encouragement and flattery that is as sickly-sweet as it is disingenuous: "You can find someone better and you deserve someone better. Someone who makes you happy in every way".
I've personally heard this one twice. The first time I was so green, so gullible... that I actually tried arguing with the girl. "But that's not true!! No I don't deserve someone better!" By the second time, I was wise to the cat-like craftiness of the female species, and so I just agreed with her: *long silence* "You know... I'm so glad you said that. There's this other girl and.... well, I've been trying to find the right time, the right way to tell you about her, but I just didn't want to hurt you. Thank God, at last we can be honest with each other now. What a relief this is, you just don't know. "
There wasn't an iota of truth to my reply, but turning the tables on her had a most dramatic affect on her subsequent behaviour and morals.
http://www.squarebrain.net/category/comic/
By the following day she was crying on the phone to me how she didn't mean it, didn't know what possessed her to say such a thing, wants to take it all back, yadda yadda. Me: "I'm astonished and sorry to hear this. I thought we were both being brutally honest with each other last night. I know I was." (and that of course was a lie)
For more than a year afterwards, she cheapened herself from a fairly fastidious woman into one easiest lays I've ever known. I could call her any hour, day or night, and she'd be over like delivery pizza. So as not to make a liar of myself, yes, I did start messing around with other girls, and even knowing that didn't stop the ex-girlfriend from showing up. It got to the point where there was not even the pretense of a "date". She'd just drive over and we'd do the deed. Eventually I grew tired of having to remember to wipe her telltale lipstick off the wine glasses, and so I ended that sordid affair.
So, guys -- What memorable lines have you been fed? How did you react to them?
And girls -- You can join in, too. What lines have you been feeding us? And which ones have served you best?

(Yeah, she really bought that. |
Wow, sure doesn't take long for these things to go off topic, does it? |

i read something one time along the lines that if a girl (or guy) says "you're too good for me" then generally they are right. they've either done the dirty, lied, cheated, stolen or in one way, shape or form acted like a turd. |

Oh jeez, Waterbaby, that's bad!! (Thanks for posting, though!) What did he make of that?? Let's find out:
WHAT SHE SAID...
Her: I'm so sorry, Guru, but this isn't about you -- it's about me. It's just that I'm changing in ways I can't control and can't -- nay, won't deny. I want you to know that what we had together was beautiful, and nothing can ever take that away from us. [I think I'm going to be sick. -- Guru] You've been great to me, you really have. But as I say, this is just about me and what's going on in my life. I hope you'll understand, and I know that some day you'll find someone who's right for you.
The Guru: But.... but.... but....
WHAT I HEARD ...
Her: It was fun while it lasted, but dude, I'm still young and I want to weigh at all my options. You were good for me and my self-esteem when I needed you. I was vulnerable and ... you were there. But right now I've got the world by its tail -- just got promoted and there's this dreamy guy in my section... we had lunch twice and I DEFINITELY felt something going on, oh yeahhhhhh! So, while I know you're still in love with my gorgeous ass, and it's perfectly understandable that you would be, I've been feeling in a rut and ... god, did I tell you about this dreamy guy in my section?
The Guru: I wish to thank you for your honesty. It's not every woman who understands that the proper way to choreograph a break-up is like removing a plaster -- quick, suddenly, and with no remorse. I admire you for this. In fact, I admire you so much I'd like to tear your clothes off and have you right this minute. Let's see if I can make you forget that new "dreamy guy". I think you owe me at least this much.

Yeah, but a girl could only say that in the earlier stages of the relationship, right? I mean, she's not going to call you a "@!#%@#$%@#$%#$" if you've exchanged bodily fluids (and I don't mean saliva), is she? Or perhaps some girls do nowadays. In the West do you mean?

Particularly comical, this one.
What tickles me is that most folk think this is a bird-only line. |

The sad thing was, I was serious!!! And even worse... I thought I was original. I was about 19 and being wooed by a lovely trumpet player who was just too bloody nice.
If I had the guts I woulda said "I'm just not that into you" (not that that's highly original either...)
Actually, the hardest thing I've EVER had to say to someone was "I don't love you anymore"... the straight up truth and no packaging it up into something else. *sigh* The truth really does hurt. |

This was from a Chinese-American girl in Hong Kong, on the third date. It's as near as I can remember to verbatim:
her: "I think we should move a little slower."
me: "I can handle that... but do you really mean move slowly, or not go anywhere with me at all?"
her: "........ sorry"
me: "Then I'm sorry too."
her: "But I want us to still be friends."
me: "Sure, OK" [thinking suuuuuuuuuuure, oooookay, you nut]
her: "And you can still invite me to the social things that you go to [like a party I'd recently invited her to] and introduce me to your foreign guy friends."
me: "Oh sure. Don't worry, we'll still be friends. Yup. I'll call you. Got to go now though. See ya." |

So jongnoguru, have you found "the one" yet? Is this a "back in the day" set of reminiscences? Good luck if you're still searching...and congrats on turning the tables that way. Its all about keeping the advantage (apparently).
Its an interesting topic..I mean how does someone basically say to another person who knows them intimately"you're no good, I have no more use for you". A painful moment, however its sugar-coated. On the flip side, most of my deserters have attempted to get me back again later.
I have been the dumpee slightly more times than I have been the dumper (destiny of the average male I suppose). I have to say I wasn't totally wise to the essence of the game before- which even led to being dropped by people that were, in hindsight, clearly beneath me. I lacked tactics. I didn't realise it was a game of strategy. I thought love was more or less a giving thing.
Lines..
"I need a break...for a few months..."
"Its not you, its me" (universal)
"I love you but there's important things I have to do in my life".
"You're not the person I thought you were". |
