Hi there:
I am interested in taking pottery classes and was wondering if anyone had any information about classes. I live in Bundang (by Seohyun station) and would ideally like to find something close by. But I am willing to go further for a good class. If you have any information please let me know. Thanks.

Probably one of the best places would be Ichon. About twenty years ago, my wife studied under a Korean "Human Cultural Asset" (living national treasure) potter, now deceased; she learned techniques and styles that were simply awesome.

I'm also interested in taking pottery classes. Does anyone know anything about the TOYA classes? |

there are many potters in bundang who offer lessons. i have been studying everyday for about a year now. unfortunately i am still not so good, but that is my own fault. anyway, you can pm me or just walk around the smaller buildings that are not over 3 or 4 stories hi (for example in jeongja-dong, yatap, etc, the areas are referred to as jeuk-taek-danji i believe) and just look in the front doors downstairs. they are almost always in these buildings in the basement and usually there is some kind of pottery related material/picture, etc on the stairs.
typically cost is 50,000 won a month to come one day a week for a few hours. i pay 250,000 a month to go everyday in the mornings. koreans prepping for uni pay 500,000 or so to go all day long. that includes use of the space and clay, but not firing or tools or anything.
i have been to ichon and most of the potters you meet there or in yeoju or kwangju also offer lessons but its pretty far away. all of the pottery people (with one exception) are very kind people. there are also usually a bunch of ajummas there taking lessons for fun. there are also lessons in kangnam and around that area. |
