I'm voting for Nickleback just because they are getting way too much air time right now.

I've got to go with The Tragically Hip. If you attend university, wear a polo shirt, and drink Sleeman's, you simply HAVE to be a fan of the Tragically Hip. It's like they include a Best of The Hip CD in every frosh pack. In the words of Mike Myers, you're issued it.

Does Alanis Morrisette count as a band? I'd vote for her.

Looking For A Place To Happen
At The Hundredth Meridian
Locked In The Trunk Of A Car
Fully Completely

Cool songs.

Little Bones
Twist My Arm
Cordelia
Long Time Running
The Last Of The Unplucked Gems

Pretty good!

Grace, Too
Daredevil
Greasy Jungle
Yawning Or Snarling
Fire In The Hole
So Hard Done By
Nautical Disaster
An Inch An Hour

Great overall album.

IMHO 3 great albums. Nickelback couldn't rise to this level even if they were taught to be musician.

All of the above at one time or another but without a doubt it's currently Nickleback.

I don't follow the current stuff much, but I used to think that the Hip were pretty darn good. Overrated? I don't think so. Especially outside of Canada where no one's heard of them. They're way underrated.

Now Rush was/is one overrated group that I just couldn't/can't get into.

Nickelback write such garbage that I find them offensive. On one hand I think Cancon is a good thing because it helps a lot of Canadian artists, on the other, it means we have to listen this kind of stuff far too often.

Over-rated doesn't neccessarily mean 'bad'; i'm proud to say I caught a number of Bare Naked Ladies shows before they ever signed a record deal. At their gigs they were selling cassettes they recorded god knows where for $5 a pop.
Gems like be my Yoko Ono, Million $, and Brian Wilson were on it.
They were the first (and still only) band to ever go Gold in Canada on the strength of independently distributed cassette sales alone.
Quite a feat.

I worked in a restaurant in downtown Montreal when Our Lady Peace were in town for a gig just down the street- they were buying a couple of drinks and literally begging for food (I think it was their first cross Canada tour, they were piled in some decrepit econoline van or something similar). We gave them a few orders that that didn't get served (some beyotch wanted double rice and no refried beans, or thought she was ordering a quesadilla when she was ordering a burrito, or whatever). The restaurant had a wall where people could sign their names, and they put a huge Our Lady Peace tag on it. It was the first time any of us had heard of them, and we were all "Our Lady Peace?!? WTF?!?" I haven't been to the restaurant in over a decade, I wonder if it's still there...

NEVER HEARD of the other bands mentioned,(okay, not entirely true) but I always thought the media hype for these guys was way overblown:

Decent debut album, but that's about it.

Hip all the way.

A few good songs, but I hate when you meet other Canadians in Korea and the conversation turns to Tim Horton's coffee and the Tragically Hip.

MOST UNDERRATED CANADIAN BAND= BLUE RODEO. These guys can write a song!
