I am looking into going to Korea for 2 months to teach summer camps. One agency has told me I can get a C4 visa to work, while others say I can only work on an E2. I am also told you can just go on a tourist visa. I'm not interested in signing up for a year contract. How is summer camp work normally handled? Is it mostly people working under the table? |

You had better watch out for a few things if you're going to do less than a year in Korea. The main thing you should be aware of, which is actually the central point of a huge debacle involving nearly 40 foreign teachers this past winter at Hankuk University, is that the legal tax rate for that c4 visa to teach English is 27%. That is the LEGAL RATE. We all went through the newest version of the tax guide, we all went through our tax treaties, and lawyers to fight it. This means if you are promised 2million Won, you will get 1.45 million. If that's okay with you fine. And don't listen to any bull***t from anyone telling you different. That's what you'll get.
Having said that there are some places that will pay under the table, but they are under no obligation to do so and if they work under the table they may do other things underhandedly as well.
If you need further clarification why this is so, PM me and I'll give you all the details. You need to know what's in store for you as a C4 visa holder in Korea under 12months. I am willing to bet the recruiter hasn't told you. |
