To me, the lack of an appealing taste is all in the sauce. They just can't seem to get a good sauce going.

As well, the bread doesn't work for me. I can go through an XL pizza here, so abot a Medium back home, and still be hungry. The bread is so airy and unsubstantial.

Corn is strange, but I don't hate it as much as some other foreigners seems to.

Up in Seoul I would sometimes shell out more money to get a good tasting pizza from Papa John's, but my neighborhood here in Daegu has about 12 awful pizza places.

Honestly, the two pizza places within sprinting distance of my place are far better than most back home. When I pull out I am realy gonna miss those places.

from those local neighborhood joints, i'd say the cheese sucks the most, it tastes bland and flavorless

dominos in korea was ok though especially if you beef up the taste by getting cheddar as topping

Sweet pickles are what I really don't like. I could definitely do without them being with the order. I guess I would have to say no to sweet potato pizza as well.

If you have Pizza World(no corn) in your neck of the woods, try them. I think they're alright. Another fella from NC used to rave about Ryu Gil-sang(although I didn't agree with him)...he said he really liked the pepperoni pizza they served and said that the sauce was good. Another place I really liked was called Good Friends Pizza(corn) in Dae-juhn. The two places I mentioned I like because they have pizza that I think tastes good as well as those ten coupons = free pizza deals along with some Pepsi being included with the order.

I'd say the sauce, or lack thereof. I don't particularly mind Korean-style pizza, but it has nothing on Papa John's.

It's all about the sauce, baby.

while papa john's b*tch-slaps all other pizzas in seoul to the ground, i don't think korean pizza is that bad at all. pizza hut, which is american if i'm not mistaken, is so greasy and cheesy, and i'd much rather eat at many korean places than there. sung shin-jae is not bad at all in my opinion..

Pizza Hut, Mr. Pizza , and most of these other chains that charge you 20,000 for a pizza prove that you can market anything to the majority of people and they'll buy it. You know it. The pizza is awful, but the Koreans still buy it.

The independant restaurants bake up far superior pizzas for half of the price. I think they really do their best with the mediocre ingredients available to them. Despite this, Pizza Huts are doing a great business as evidenced by the fact that they're in almost every neck of the woods in Korea.

There should be an "all of the above" selection in this poll because you can't just select one choice here. All the ingredients are mediocre. You could point the finger at the Korean manufacturers of the majority of ingredients (maybe they just have different tastes. I don't care for their beer either, but they seem to love it) but what puzzles me is the tasteless cheese which they buy from Australia and New Zealand. They must buy it from other Koreans living in those countries because I don't see how any aussies or kiwis could produce that kind of flavorless stuff. Maybe, the cheese is flavored for Korean tongues.

Maybe the bad pizza is a punishment for not choosing Korean food. Very Happy

Watered down spaghetti sauce is never very good on pizza.

I'm not sure what you all like about Papa John's. I've had it once here and it was edible but unimpressive. I like Korean Pizza Huts much better than the Canadian ones, though; so cheesy. awww yeah.

Pizza Etang was pretty bad though. I've never understood why they chose that name, either; granted, most Koreans probably don't get it, but presumably someone must have understood it when they chose it, and who thought Swamp Pizza sounded appealing?

corn on pizza is awesome. Don't let the naysayers persuade you otherwise.

The dough is disgusting, after 20 minutes it's like chewing on an old boot. Smile

Strangley, the garlic pizza at Pizza mall, in front of Ehwa vixen university, is the best pizza I've ever had (9 900won for a large). The place has the ambience of Burger King, but brother, that's great pizza. Other branches of the chain cook shlock.

Papa John's is good except for the sauce. The main problem with Korean pizzas is the toppings they put on it, such as corn or sweet potato. Get a pizza without all that and it's fine. There was a place in Suwon by my old office that made great pizza. It wasn't a chain though.

THere is a place just up the raod from me called Carte Pizza. They serve about the best pizzas I have ever tasted. I ate at Pizza hut 1 month ago and it was little different than the pizza huts back home. It was good but in no way comparable to Carte Pizza. Their sauce is a really sweet tomato sauce and the cheese is premium mozarella. I have always hated dominoes pizza. Back home we had one next to my mom and dad's place and everytime they would order pizza it would be from there. I can eat about 4-5 slices of pizza hut pizza whereas I can only stomach about 1 slice of dominoes before I am ready for a candy bar and soda to wash the tast out of my mouth. The only other pizza I have found that was worse was Little Ceasers, but they went out of business years ago.
