Last night, I had a couple of beers with one of my uni students. We were talking about his English (which is pretty good!) and I asked him where he had learned to speak so well. He told me that in high school, he HATED English, but he started going to a hagwon after he finished his exams. He said that he had a GREAT teacher and the teacher got him more interested in English and made him a lot more comfortable speaking.
So, when you have those classes where you think that no one is learning anything, remember that the shy kid in the corner MAY just be absorbing more than you think!!
Thanks to all hagwon teachers who make a difference...and especially to someone named "Rob" in Daejon for lighting a fire in my student! |

Sometimes we do. I came here when there was barely electricity. I survive because I did make a difference. Because I know people who came to be the leaders of thier country.
Always laugh and torture the "camel jockey" in your dorm not recognizing he will be the next Sultan of Bahrain. |

Of course we make a difference. Collectively we provide a dent upon the car they drive. |
