|
|
This so low tech that I thought I'd post here rather than on the Technical board.
Last summer I bought a wooden cutting board. I seasoned it, but now it is stained and looks...unappetizing.
So...
a) What's a good oil to use? Is olive oil OK?
b) How much oil do you use?
c) How many times do you apply the oil before the board is ready to use?
Thanks for any wisdom you have to share.
PS: Don't need info on plastic cutting boards. I'm up to speed on those. |

you're supposed to season wooden cutting boards?! I did not know that. I've been using mine for months without doing anything special other than washing it. I HAVE considered smushing some blueberries or strawberries into it just to change the color (and hide strawberry and blueberry stains). |

You don't have to, but you shouldn't be washing it either (at least not in the same way you wash dishes, you should be wiping it down rather than immersing it in water), wood has natural anti-bacterial properties. |

I have never ever put any oil or any crap like that on any of the boards I've used. I just wash them well after use, of course. When they get too knackered with loads of deep slits in them I'll toss them out and get a new one.
Glass and plastic boards just feel wrong to me. I like the sound of sharp steel against wood.
Just wash the thing well and you're fine. |
