What's your best newbie arrival story? Here's mine:

My hogwan in Gunsan hired a new teacher and sent the school bus driver to pick him up in Incheon. The driver was late, so the guy arrives and there is nobody to meet him. He calls the director's cell number, but she has two phones and has left the one he's calling at home. So no answer, its late at night, and he decides to just find a hotel and sort it out tomorrow.

He goes to a hotel, and asks the clerk if he can use the phone to try his director again. The clerk is all curious and so the guy explains. The clerk says, I will help you. The guy says that's ok, checks in and goes out to get some food.

Meanwhile the bus driver arrives at the airport and looks all over for the guy, panics and calls the director. She says, keep looking. Meanwhile, the "helpful" clerk calls the police and tells them there is a stranded foreigner at his hotel. So, as the guy walks back from the restaurant to the hotel, he gets picked up by the police. They take him to the station, spend an hour poring over his documents and finally decide to let him go.

The helpful clerk meanwhile has the number the guy has been calling, and calls the director who has retrieved the correct cellphone. So she gets a call informing her that her new teacher has been arrested. She calls the bus driver who is still roaming desperately around and he heads to the police station to find out what the guy's done. He spots him making his way back to the hotel, they pick up his stuff from the clerk and drive 3 hours to Gunsan.

Welcome to Korea.
