I gather that Hotmail changed their format some time in the last 24 hours. The appearance is very different. More annoyingly, my in-box has now been arranged alphabetically, as opposed to chronologically as it was before. Anyone else have this problem, and do you know how to rearrange the in-box back to a chronological format? |

Hotmail is funny...
They've tested different changes before, only to go back to the original within a day or so. I think they know people didn't like changing the old format, but finally, the usefulness of the change took precedence.
I noticed that this format loads much quicker. Also, the inbox allows you to just check messages from those on your list. A desperate attempt to help us keep from clearing though spam every time we log in. Of course, we will have to sort through it SOMETIME. At least they tried.
We'll see if they keep with it.

Another Hotmail Problem,
My computer says that the inbox page loaded with "errors" and then when I click on a new mail - I also get an error notice (on the bottom of the screen). But, if I do my e-mail on my friend's machine - no problem!
It is some sort of java script problem - but local to my machine - what can I do to fix that? |

Yeah I just noticed that they'd changed. I guess I should read the crappy newsletters aka spam they send me. I hate change. I want the old one back, it took me long enough to figure it out, now i have to start again. |

I had my hotmail account for like 10+ years and all my former students communicate to me on it (because I said that they could contact me on it on that address forever since I want to keep tabs on them when they are like 60 or so). I, therefore, don't want to give up on it, but damm the problems hotmail has! (Spam too with such an old account and my stupidly using that email address for signing up for things in the past; now I just use a spam fly-paper yahoo account for signing up for *beep*.) Sorry, rambling post--can't sleep.
Anyway, the problem:
My text I type in gets garbled characters between spaces and on some characters when I sent it to others and those same characters come back garbled to me when someone sends me an email. The only way I could avoid this for outgoing mail was by copying and pasting my text onto notepad and then repasting onto my outgoing email--a very annoying trouble. Anybody know why this happens? Hotmail doesn't use unicode, I think someone said? Even then, how do I fix it, if it can be fixed.
(I really like gmail; its sort functions and "conversations,' not to mention the storage, are much much better.) |

Somewhat unrelated, but I have a very old hotmail account. I use gmail and yahoo more now, mainly because I was stuck with a really small inbox for the longest time. I tried to get it bumped up without paying, but they said had to be a resident of the US to get it. Then I went down to my sister's place just across the Can/US border on the US side last time we were home and logged into my email. The next time I logged in, I had been bumped up to 250 mb.
So, if anyone is stuck with a small storage size, just get a friend to sign in for you in the US, and they'll probably give you more storage.
I still like yahoo better, though. |
