Has anybody done the job placement with i to i in korea. it pays 900 english pounds a month and your accomodations free but I've been reading that you can earn a lot more than that and still have free accomodation? Whats the best way to get a job in Korea? Apply to jobs I see on tinternet or just fly to Korea and knock on some doors?!! I've got a degree but very little teaching experience so what kind of money could I be looking towards?

This is my first post so go easy on me if I haven't conformed to korean forum etiquette!

Most jobs provide free housing and a salary in the neighborhood of W2,000,000 (check conversion for how much that is in your national currency). The majority say they live on about half that salary and save the rest.

The 'safest' way to get a job is to come here first. If you are here, you a) can go to schools and meet the people and judge for yourself about the quality of working and living conditions and b) have an opportunity to be at the head of the potential employee list--it's much cheaper for an employer to hire someone already here, which gives you a leg up on the overseas competition.

I disagree on that point Ya-ta ... I think if you fly yourself over here you are going to be out of pocket for (at the very least) your living expenses and other things. Plus if you are new to the culture, you may not even know where to start looking for jobs.

Then you have to start negotiating with your boss to get your flight paid for. Which they might consider an expense that you have already covered. Plus you might get a response from the cheapie schools that aren't willing to pay for their teacher's flight etc...

Not to talk about the fact that while you do work here, you'll be working illgeally until you do your visa run.

Personally, I really don't see why you shouldn't just get a job from the comfort of your own livingroom at home. Get your visa before you come over, and then (hopefully) get met at the airport and move into your apartment straight away. But that's just my opinion.

My friend was placed in in Ansan with i-to-i. He is a fellow Brit. The school was small and badly managed. He also had to pay for his own flight and was repaid upon finishing the contract.


My advice is to do the leg work yourself and hit the websites like this one, or of the actual schools. Apply online and avoid recruiters.

SCAM ALERT. Do not have anything to do with them or their shoddy little internet certificate. Their jobs placement salaries are consistantly lower
than the market. They also have a greedy little scheme where people pay them to teach English. It is my belief they do a great disservice to the industry.
