|
|
Recently I inquired about a public school position under the auspices of the
Incheon School Board. I declined when I discovered through one recruiter
that I would be working for a private educational corporation which has been
selected by the Board to find and hire teachers to be placed in Incheon. And
to my dismay I found out that I would be working at two public schools - 3 classes
at one school in the morning and 3 classes at the other one in the afternoon.
These hours smack of a hagwon schedule, not one of a public school. Different
job agencies are advertising Incheon School Board positions. From what I've
leraned, it seems each recruiter is seeking teachers for different educational
corporations. Anyone who is seeking a bonafide public school position should
be aware of this arrangement with the Incheon Board. |

Really, it doesn't sound like such a big deal. OHHH, morning and afternoon classes!! OMG, how could they?? They won't start before 8, and you'll be finished by 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Better behaved children too. Please show us some good reasons to NOT take these jobs, not good reasons to take these jobs. |

The reason why I didn't want the job was because I didn't want to work 7
hours back to back without a break or a spare period: the job required 3
classes in a row in the morning + an hour to shuttle to the other school, as
I grab a quick bite at the nearest Family Mart, + 3 classes in a row in the
afternoon at the other school. I'd have 15 or 20 minutes in between them
to prepare myself. Fortunately, I was hired directly by a high school where
I teach an average of 4 classes a day in an 8 hour period, leaving the school
at 4:30pm. and I prepare only 1 lesson plan a week for all the first year classes.
If you're masochistic enough to prefer the former position that had been offered
to me, then be my guest and take it. There are still many available. |
