I guess they are if the VHS tapes were.

I'm getting into 'backing-up' Very Happy DVD's from my local video store and I'm wondering if I'm getting cut-up versions or full versions.

Good question. Probably depends on the movie.

Definitely depends on the movie.

I picked up the movie "Scandal" (now out-of-print in the states), and it was pretty much uncut with the exception of a little blurring in one short instance. But it's funny how much some of the censors miss.

A big example is in their edition of "The Unbearable Lightness Of Being", which is taken from the Criterion edition (also OOP) and contains the director's commentary. A woman's coochie is blurred from the front, then she turns around and gives you a back end view of it unobstructed by anything.

Of course it depends on the content of the movie. What I should be asking is if the normal Korean standards of censorship are applied to DVD's. I guess they are.

For example......I've noticed that explicit scenes of drug use are cut from Korean TV. Does that mean they will also be cut from the DVD available in your local video store?

Is TV censorship and rental censorship the same?
