"By Mistake"?

Uh sure, and I 'accidentally' ate your lunch.
Sorry about that.

Report: North Korea fires missiles

Wednesday, March 8, 2006 Posted: 1908 GMT (0308 HKT)

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- North Korea reportedly fired two surface-to-air missiles near its border with China, a poignant reminder of the communist regime's ability to foment instability in the region amid the ongoing standoff over its nuclear weapons program.

Japan's Kyodo news agency cited a "security source" in China as saying the missiles were fired by mistake in the direction of China during a military drill and apparently landed inside the North. The agency also cited a "Western military source" as saying the short-range missiles were test-fired in an eastern direction from the North's eastern coast, toward the Sea of Japan.

It sure looks to me like ole Jong-Il knows how to time things. I think we have to give him credit for that.

I wonder if during that last trip to Beijing he asked Hu if it would be OK to stir things up a bit, or if Hu ticked him off and now he's 'accidentally' firing missiles toward China.

Yeah, I'm not worried. I'd guess North Korea also doesn't have enough fuel for it's tanks, either.

Even if North Korea had enough fuel for its tanks, they are all outdated Soviet models, regardless of whether they have been upgraded or not.

The T-34 was a technological breakthrough...when it came out in 1941. The T-54/55/59 are all from the 1950's and the T-62 are from the 60's. These last tanks are more dangerous to their crew. The crew risks carbon monoxide poisoning after firing, and that's if they don't lose an arm first while loading the gun. These tanks have the tendency to explode in pieces at the slightest of hits because their fuel and ammunitions compartments aren't properly armored.

The South Korean K-1 tank is similar to the American M-1. These tanks can take several hits and continue on fighting because their hulls deflect shots. Just have a look at what the American M-1s did to the Iraqi versions of the T-62s. It wasn't a rare occurance to see one M-1 take out several Iraqi tanks in as span of minutes.
