I was playing a game with my students the other day about connecting words to-gether in a chain end to end. Got stumped because I needed a word ending in V. Anyone out there know of words I can use that end in "V".

I like shiv and chav!!!! -- count on those Limeys for werid spelling. But I do think chav is of eastern european origin?????

Kiev is spelled correctly -- Kyiv (long explanation, having to do with phonetics and Russian/Ukranian animosity....)

Smirnoff and Molotov are Russian names...note the FF ending.

TV is an abbreviation, Tel Aviv is hebrew (I think????)....

So shiv it is!!!!

But we do see the word Love spelled, "luv"....seems to be almost predictable that it will evolve into this spelling...

I think "vav" is a letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

Whaddya know, crossword puzzles sometimes come in handy.

I bet a "scrabble" dictionary would have a few.

As a Limey, I can shed some light on the possible origins of 'chav'. Some say it is from the Romany language, according to other sources it is an acronym of 'council house and violent'. Council houses being homes that are cheaply let by the local authority.

I don't think anyone suggested 'spiv', British slang for someone who makes a living from swindling or underhand dealings (or some hogwan owners?).

Hope this is useful

leitmotiv, a variant of leitmotif (you'll almost always see it spelled with an "f", however)
lev, a monetary unit used in Bulgaria
maglev, a recent but legitimate word for a train which moves using magnetic levitation
moshav, imported from Hebrew and roughly synonymous to kibbutz
shiv, slang for a knife used as a weapon; rarely spelled "chiv"
spiv, British slang for a flashy dresser "who lives by his wits without regular employment"; evolved from "spiff"
vav (waw) and tav (taf), the sixth and twenty-second letters of the Hebrew alphabet
avalyn says Recent happenings in the UK have birthed the word chav, although it hasn't been put in a dictionary (yet).
