So I find out today after school that myself and another (27-year-old male) teacher (who's never left Korea) are taking 10 teenage girls, give or take, on a one-week trip to somewhere at the end of July. I'm given a list of Canada, the USA, England, Australia, NZ, Thailand, the Philippines, or Indonesia. Given the cost issues it will likely be the Philippines, though I have lots of ideas if Canada can be afforded.
Has anyone ever done *anything* like this before? I'm absolutely positive that I'll have to do 100% of the research and planning myself, aided only by Korean travel agents. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

Ten teenage girls for a week in a foreign country? All I can say is that I'm extremely glad it's you and not me. Good luck. |

Been there, done that...
I suggest that you not do Aus. or NZ with Korean students because of visa and cost issues. Airfare alone will kill you on a trip to Canada.
Thailand and Indonesia are cheap but will give you language problems.
Philippines can be good if you can avoid Manila and stay in some of the other larger cities like Cebu or tourist spots like Bohol so you don't have language problems and still have a good experience on a limited budget.
Feel free to drop me a line (ps here or via e-mail at [email protected]) for specifics, ideas and past experiences. |

Don't you think you need a female escort? This doesn't look like a good idea.....I think you need an older Korean woman to help. Remember that they can go into the rooms at night and they can keep them in line. Sounds like a very bad idea to take them by yourself with another male teacher. |

ABSOLUTELY agree with Bellum. I've been on a trip overseas with a group of teenage girls and there was NO WAY a male teacher would be on duty at night when girls are getting changed/ready for bed etc. If you and the other teacher take them on day trips you both will probably be exhausted from having to keep eyes in the back of your head all day and will probably need some 'time out' at night. Surely if your school is going to commit to such a trip they could send a female teacher over with you. It could even be a good deal for the extra teacher if they can have free time in the day and only have to be on duty at night. |

What do they pay for that? If you're responsible for the stuents 24-hours/day then the pay should reflect that. If not, then you could be responsible for them 8 hrs/day with regular pay with an expense account.
It could be a good experience if things are woked out correctly beforehand.
They'll probably be all like "It's a free trip for you!" I'd ask for some cash up front. Enough that you wouldn't run away on them. Something like that.
Thing is, in a situation like this, you're always on call. That makes it 24 hrs/day. |

If you go to NZ or Aus I would only suggest a tour type way or to be in league with an English school set up there. So they are busy at day. It's too dangerous to be letting the kids get around, if they do, by themselves. |

I would suggest something like Singapore :
- most people there speak english
- inexpensive to travel within and safe!
- convenient place to shop and not too time consuming to travel from one end of the island to the other
- has a number of tourist spots, zoo and night safari, sentosa island, birdpark, orchard road etc
- can take a trip to Johor Bahru (Malaysia) to experience the kampong/rural lifestyle or a $45SGD 4-5 hour bus ride to KL to see the twin towers (significant because one of the tower was built by the koreans).
And 1 week would be more than enough. Good luck! |

If you are worried about airfare to Canada, but you know several good possibilities in Canada, then I suggest you look at EVA Air. www.evaair.com
A round trip ticket to Vancouver in June is 750,000 Won.
Hope that helps, and good luck (you'll need it)!

Thanks a lot - I'll look into that today. I just got an email from my sister who lives close to Vancouver saying that we can crash at her (fairly large and empty) house so that just might be doable.

Thanks so much for the offer of help - if it looks like the Philippines is on I'll be sure to drop you a line. |

And just what is the educational value of a 7 day trip to an English speaking country?
I can see the benefit of a trip outside the country, but what does English have to do with it? |
