I walked by it the other weekend and it seemed a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I thought about going inside to see what it was like, but not being a muslim, I backed out.

Has anybody here been inside the mosque?

Can curious non-muslims visit?

yes, you can go into the mosque and look around. take your shoes off before entering and i think women probably have to cover their heads.
i wouldn't recommend going at prayer time though.

I just got this in an email from a former student who's now at HUFS:

Last weekend, I went to Islam mosque in Itaewon.

I went to Itaewon first time.
Itaewon is exotic.
There were many foreigners & stores.
Store's signboard is made up many language.

In Islam mosque, I met many Arabics.
Before I met them, I thougth they're rough.
But, after I met them, they're very kind.
That day, I learned Arabic greetings.

It's so difficult... pronunciation, especially.

In my major classes, there is Arabic conversation.

That teacher is from Iraque.
Her name is Mona.
She is like mom. (^_^)

I had warned her that they might be more interested in coverting her than teaching her Arabic (if they're anything like the Christians and Mormons here) - anyone know if that's how they operate? Anyhow she seemed very positive about it. I guess if anyone's trying to learn Arabic it might be something to think about.

They're Muslims, not Christians. I've never heard of a Muslim trying to convert somebody.

they are. but there is a special place in the back for them. same thing with mecca. when i went to the blue mosque in istanbul and i couldn't go to the front prayer part because it was solely a sausage party.

but it's a beautiful religion of equality and peace.

The Mosque is beautiful. Yes, women can enter mosques, imams are not useless and Muslims do not try to convert people ...it is against our religion. Being Muslim myself I can say this....but going into a mosque can be a nice experience just like someone who is not a Catholic going into a church. I have to say that I am surprised by some of the really rude comments I have read on this site about Muslims. Have a little respect and dignity....I mean you are living in a country that is not your own after all! So how do you feel about that?

Has there ever been a religion that didn't discriminate between the sexes at least a little bit? Remember what the Bible preaches about menstruation (and don't make me hunt down the quotes).
