Anyone know of some good CONVERSATION textbooks.
I've been using the Pagoda English Countdown 2 & 3 books for my Adult Beginner and my Business Corporation Class.
Conversation texts that don't require students to write much are perfect.
My Adult Beginner Students want to read and speak, they don't want to have to write grammer, sentences etc.
The Businessmen want Business English. We have a good Business English text but it is mostly written in Korean.
We need texts that are written completely in English. Texts with role plays would be perfect.
Thanks for your help. |

OK, well. First off, your Beginner students should not be telling you what they want (how did they tell you this...if they are beginners). Beginners learn by repetition. When they have a limited vocabulary it's pretty boring repeating the same basic stuff over and over again so this is where writing, gap fills etc comes in handy. It re-inforces what you are teaching them. They also need grammar, just don't make a big fuss about it. They need to know the parts of speech.

A standard supplimentary text in good schools that I have worked in is Business Communication Games (I have lent it to someone so I can't provide the author) by Oxford or Cambridge. Teaching Business English is also primarily teaching vocabulary. Student's should really have a pre-intermediate level before trying to study Business English. I personally like the Business English Certificate (BEC) text. |

I live in rural Korea but my businessmen are going book shopping this weekend in Busan.
Appreciate your help.
Anyother suggestions are welcome. |

| Business Ventures is also good. Lots of conversation practice and they teach a lot of good business vocab, such as the difference between a "reception" (where people go to meet each other before a conference starts) and "reception" (the area of an office where you enter and give your name and who you are there to see). |

I like these texts, they are kind of classics if you think about it.
New headway, (go with the British version)
Cutting Edge
Lots of good things in those texts. |

| If it is a conversation class why do you need books? |

Ever gone into a coversation class and looked at the students and said "Talk"?
Nothing happens. Students, especially low to intermediate studentds, need and want the structure a textbook provides. |
