I have this new fancy FFH (think that's it) fiber optic internet. The box part of it(like the cable modem) has four ports so you really do not need your own router as you can hook up four puters to one internet connection--like a built in router. But I need more ports. I quickly threw a router on one of the ports one day but the bastard did not work (the box now has three computers and one router hooked up to it). In my mind there should be no reason why it did not work but obviously I am missing something.
What are you thoughts on getting this bad boy to work? |

Does the FHH have router firmware? Sounds like it might. I think you might have problems hooking a router to a router? Just guessing, I don't know what FHH is but I have heard that router on to router can cause problems... |

Might depend if what you hooked up was a router or a switch.. if its a router, like the previous poster said, you'll need to go in and disable all the stuff (like DHCP) that makes it think that it's is in control, and dumb it down until it's just passing stuff through to/from the modem.
If it's only a switch, then there *should* be no problem.. But you may need to log into the modem to see what the settings there are like (good luck doing that ~ I'm guessing that the ISP didn't give you the details).
If you can post a photo of what the box you plugged in is, it would help.
BTW, how fast is the connection? |
