I was reading something on the 2006 IBT TOEFL is insane thread, which prompted me to do a google search.
Somehow I fell upon this site: http://rinkworks.com/words/oddities.shtml
I find it fascinating.
Hope you enjoy it. |

That is interesting, thanks for posting that. Sure makes me feel small that someone was able to put all that together, but at the end they forgot Hangang River! |

For a while I was trying to come up with the longest English word that didn't contain a smaller word before ending. So "tale" would be out because "ale" is a word. "Quiver" was the best I did. |

But "er" is a word. |

Hater Depot, doesn't this mean that you can't use any words containing a or i?
You could also go the other way and look for the word which contains the most smaller words. Halloween has been nominated for this title. |

I'm not counting interjections or single-letter words.
Anyway, it would still muster under my rules because the smaller word can't be completed before the end of the whole word. So "Member" could also work even though the final r gives you"ember". |

Here are some words which I have come up with by forgetting to hit the toggle switch:
aha <==>
did <==>
go <==>
so <==>
to <==>
rick <==>
Any additions? |

I stumbled on a few more:
an <==>  (radish)
dud <==>  (command, zero, ghost)
god <==> (line, row, asceticism) |
