I've never had a problem playing vcd cd's on my old computer or on any dvd player. I have a new dell laptop with a sony dvd/rw and it won't recognize any vcd cd I put in. They should just auto play, the drive sounds like it's starting up and then stops. I've tried to play them in powerdvd, vlcplayer, media player classic, and windows media player and they all say the drive is empty. The drive still reads all my data discs without a problem and plays dvd's fine. Anyone know what might be up? |

I don't know why it won't autoplay, but if you "explore" the cd, there will be large .dat (I believe they are .dat...) files in one of the folders. This can be dragged into most media players, or right click and chooes the program you want to use.
Works for me anyhow. Good luck. |

The first thing is to find out if the drive actually can see files and folders on the cd, then take it from there. |

This is weird.
If I run an mp3 cd or divx cd the drive shows the files. Dvd's autoplay with no problem. I've tried every vcd cd that I own and it starts to autoplay then stops. The Dvd drive shows that there is no disc or data in the drive.
Could this be something with sony drives? |
