Hello, I'm considering taking a public school position in either Jeollanam-do or Gyeongsangnam-do (Sancheong City). The contract and benefits are fairly similar, so I'm trying to find out a little more about each place.

Has anyone ever lived/worked/visited Sancheong City in Sancheong-gun? I know it's a small town near some scenic spots, but that's about it.

I lived in a small town in the US during college, and I'm kind of looking forward to a small town/city experience in Korea. But does Sancheong City (or places near it) have any other selling points I should know about? Thanks.

San Cheong is a VERY small, but very bucolic, place. You would be completely immersed in the rural, Korean lifestyle there. The surrounding countryside is very scenic, the air is fresh, the people are mostly friendly in that small town way. Check to see if there are currently any other foreigners living/working there. If not, it could become a very isolating experience. It's been a while since I was last there, but as I recall it's only a 30 to 40 minute bus ride from JinJu, where you'll have no problem finding other Westerners and Western style food and shops, as well as bars, some clubs and a movie theater. I had friends who worked in San Cheong several years ago, and while they enjoyed the peaceful lifestyle, the sense of isolation wore on them with time. Here is the San Cheong city website, in English:

Good luck with your decision.
